ACL strange behaviour
...irectory (but no in its subfolders) the correct behaviour is that i can allow access to several users without access for the group, and this was working after the migration. it could be a different ACL behaviour between SLES 9 (Samba 3.0.20b-3.17-1297-SUSE) and SLES 10 (Samba 3.0.28-0.2-1625-SUSE-CODE10)? how i can get ACL working if so? information about my configuration: * users become to a common group (ie, group1) to get access to shares * shares are 770 (owner root, group group1) * smb config for shares: [test] path = /data/test read only = no browseable = no create m...

File Lock Issue
...I was looking at the //|reset on zero vc|/ = |no |/option, but that seem to be for a connection of the same IP Address. Once he switches to wireless, he will have a different IP Address, so I don't think this option will help him. This server is running Samba Version 3.0.24-2.23-1296-SUSE-CODE10 on SUSE SLES 10 and the client is using Windows XP. I've seen many people asking this... what is the default time for a file to be locked if the connection is dropped? Also, is there a configurable option to change that time? If anyone has any idea for this issue, I'd be grateful to h...

connecting to shares in other subnet : slow
Greets, samba-users, I contact this list because of a problem I face at a customer's site. We run Samba version 3.0.28-0.6-1787-SUSE-CODE10 there on a SLES 10 SP2 server. This server is located behind a firewall (run by me), that firewall allows all relevant Samba-ports through (137-139, 445). The clients are located in a separated subnet, the routing between client- and server-subnet is run by an external service-provider, we hav...

Samba crashes and domain problems
Hi, I have inherited a Samba PDC running on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10.1 (the Samba version is 3.0.24-2.23-1296-SUSE-CODE10). The server has been giving problems for a few weeks including the following symptoms: 1. Users accessing a share are experiencing intermittent problems writing to the share (Excel tells them the file they are trying to write is read-only). 2. when I try to add a domain account to a Workstatio...

Samba share and --ghost'ed automount hierarchy
...lesystems it thinks exist due to the --ghost option. Is it possible to have smbd simply return the list of directories it finds (from the "fake" --ghost listing) without it causing the automounter to attempt a mount each directory? I'm running SuSE 10.1, with Samba 3.0.22-11-SUSE-CODE10 and autofs 4.1.4 on a 2.6.18-rc4 kernel (with SuSE 10.1 /proc/config.gz). "auto.master" and the "auto.data" maps are stored in LDAP, if that makes a difference. (another option might be to write a script to convert the auto.data map into an appropriate set of symbolic links...

winbindd PID name resolution mis-behaviour with Linux (openSuse 10.1)

However, I've encountered two issues: 1. username resolution of PID UID's stay numeric, the operating system is not resolving the UID of the process and leaving it numric. 2. in another deployment (with exact smb.conf...

Samba and Vista?

I looked through the SWAT settings for Samba and could find no mention of this protocol. SWAT reports I am running version 3.0.22-13.18-SUSE-CODE10 if that helps, perhaps I need a newer version of Samba? Thanks for any help/advice offered... Marc...

tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi everyone, Previous to today my samba install was working fine, after a reboot I wasn't able to access the share and with smbclient the output is as follows: Password: Domain=[RENDER] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.25b-1.1.72-1411-SUSE-CODE10] tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED There is no firewall in the way, and there is also nothing in the main logs, I do see myself connecting in log.IP log for my machine. Here is my smb.conf, like I said previously everything was fine before a reboot so I doubt anything in the config...

Hello list, I'm running a samba server in AD domain, with some AD users explicitly mapped into local users by "username map = sambauser.map", which is a text file. Problem is found with explicitly mapped user, I can only access home share by //server/<ADusername>, not //server/homes (using windows explorer). This feels wrong because I also tried those AD users not listed in

accessing windows shared folders from vmware guest linux
