re-encode
Have some flac files, that I've been trying to re-encode again...
example:
abc.flac ( was coded at --fast ) and its huge
so,
flac -d --best abc.flac
or
flac --best abc.flac
or
flac --best abc.flac --force
NONE of these work, to re-encode the file into --best
file size has not change.
What is the correct command line to correctly re-encode a file to
--best (regardless) on what compress

best string setting
Level 1 uses far less compression than level 8. In terms of compression,
the lower the "level" the less compression used (and the larger the
resulting FLAC file).
Hope that helps.

metaflac --remove-all-tags
there something fishy going on, have about 21 flac files, in a folder,
and 9 of them still showing meta tag data in juk.
When running metaflac --list, show nothing on all 21 files,
however in amarok and juk I can still see some info on 9 flac files.
Howdoes one fix these flac files? are they corrupted?
flac -t came back ok on all
Anyone ?

best string setting
I think he might be concerned with audio quality, and doesn't quite
understand what "lossless" really means!

Flac to .wav or Re-flac
Have allot of .flac files, I would like to set a standard on,
say setting flac -3 --replay-gain....etc..etc
Now, can one re-flac a already .flac file again into to this standard setting
I want to use... or does one have to un-flac the file into a .wav file first.
if so, how does one uncompress a flac file back into a wav( without) lossing
its meta data.

Windows XP
Well, our company has dump linux OS in favor of Windows XP (deal from Dell
on new computers and OS )
So, I'm in need of a windows xp media player for ripping and burning and
playing all my flac files
Which I stored on a usb external drive.
Asking the group, one app for windows, would play flac and ogg files ?
Heard of some names, but not familiar with them aka: foobar or winamp or
media

open source vs closed source compression
is this the sign of the the times, that closed source compression formats,
are going to be dead... since Microsoft is being sued for 1.5 Billion for
using .mp3 in
there Vista OS.
Long Live open source.
