cLVM on Debian/Lenny
Hi -
Is there someone around who successfully got cLVM on Debian/Lenny
working? I was wondering if I was the only one facing problems with...
Thanks in anticipation,

XEN and clustering?
...sternode3# dd if=/dev/mapper/winxp of=/node3winxp
When I download these files and diff them, they all three differ.
Also, sometimes very strange things happen. For example I download some
file into winxp, shut it down, then start it on another node, and file
is missing?!?!?!?!
Should I use maybe CLVM and not raw volumes from storage? Why is this
happening?

lockmanager for use with clvm
Hi,
i am setting up a cluster of kvm hypervisors managed with libvirt.
The storage pool is on iscsi with clvm. To prevent that a vm is
started on more than one hypervisor, I want to use a lockmanager
with libvirt.
I could only find sanlock as lockmanager, but AFSIK sanlock will not
work in my setup as I don't have a shared filesystem. I have dlm running
for clvm. Are there lockmanager implementations...

pvresize on a cLVM
Hi,
I'm needing to expand a LUN on my EMC CX4-120 SAN. (Well I already had done it).
On this LUN I had a PV of a cLVM VG. Know I need to run pvresize on it.
Has anybody done this on a cLVM PV ?
I'm trying to rescan the devices, but I can't "see" the new size. And,
googling on it I can only find RHEL5.2 responses.
Thanks in advance,
Antonio.

AoE LVM2 DRBD Xen Setup
Hello everybody,
I am in the process of setting up a really cool xen serverfarm. Backend
storage will be an LVMed AoE-device on top of DRBD.
The goal is to have the backend storage completely redundant.

High Number of VMs
...this date we only dealt with a small number of VM''s
(~10)on not too big hardware (2xquad xeons+16GB ram). As I''m the
"storage guy" I find it quite convenient to present to the dom0s one
LUN per VM that makes live migration possible but without the cluster
file system or cLVM complexity. The thing is that Linux has a 255 SCSI
device limit apparently (255/2= ~128 with multipath) and that won''t
scale in big installations (300 VMs for example).
Any experiences on this scale?

local disk FC san CLVM + migration of virtual machines
...llo all
We are looking into ovirt for several weeks now and i have to say that it
looks very promising.
Our current environment is based on a lot off shell scripts and xen.
We would like to move to ovirt but there are some things we would like to
have working before moving.
1. using FC, san and clvm for storage
2. The ability to migrate virtual machines when we have to do maintenance
on a physical host.
What work is done at the moment to support the above?
With kind regards

lvm over nbd?
...n and is assigned to
VG volgroup1. I want to share /dev/sda3 via nbd-server
SYSTEM B: receives A''s /dev/sda3 as /dev/nbd0. I want to
access it as VG volgroup1.
I am hoping this will allow me to share LV partitions on volgroup1
which is used by XEN domUs.
I think i read something about CLVM. Will this allow me to do what
I want? how do i go about setting up a clvm?
TIA,
Tomoki

Problem with CLVM (really openais)
I'm desparately looking for more ideas on how to debug what's going on
with our CLVM cluster.
Background:
4 node "cluster"-- machines are Dell blades with Dell M6220/M6348 switches.
Sole purpose of Cluster Suite tools is to use CLVM against an iSCSI storage
array.
Machines are running CentOS 5.8 with the Xen kernels. These blades host
various VMs for a project. The iS...

Xen and SAN : snapshot XOR live-migration ?
Please tell me if I am wrong :
Xen needs LVM to perform domU snapshots and snapshots must be performed
by dom0.
By the way, a LVM volume group should not be used by more that one
kernel at the same time. So if we use a SAN storage, one volume group
should be activated on only one server and deactivated on the others.
But if we do that, it should not be possible to perform live migration

iSCSI and LVM
Hi Everyone,
I am going to get a storage server which will be connected to my Xen hosts via iSCSI/Ethernet. I wish to use LVM for the DomU disks. The storage server will have a RAID10 array, and 2 Xen hosts will connect to this (Each will have a 50% share of the RAID10 array, space wise).
What is the best way to go about this? Should I:
a) Split the RAID10 array into 2 partition on the

GFS and Small Files
Hi all,
We are running CentOS 5.2 64bit as our file server.
Currently, we used GFS (with CLVM underneath it) as our filesystem
(for our multiple 2TB SAN volume exports) since we plan to add more
file servers (serving the same contents) later on.
The issue we are facing at the moment is we found out that command
such as 'ls' gives a very slow response.(e.g 3-4minutes for the
outputs...

Shared Storage Options
Hello all.
I would like to canvas some opinions on options for shared storage in a Xen cluster. So
far I've experimented with using iSCSI and clvm which mixed success.
The primary concern I have with both of these options is that there seems to be no obvious
way to ensure exclusive access to the LUN/device to the VM I want to run. On a couple of
occasions during my playing I've accidentally started the same VM on two servers and

XEN HA Cluster with LVM fencing and live migration ? The right way ?
...ng directly the multipath dm
device as phy disk ). This is working nicely, live migration works fine,
easy setup even if the multipath.conf can get a bit fussy with the growing
number of LUNs : but no fencing at all, I can start the VM on both node and
this is BAD!
Then I''ve tried to used cLVM on top of the multipath. I''ve managed to get
cLVM up and running pretty easily in the cluster environment.
From here to way of thinking:
1. One big SR on the SAN split into LV that I can use for my VM. A
huge step forward flexibility, no need to reconfigure the SAN each time.
Still...

Xen VMs on GFS
Hello list
I've installed cluster suite with 8 physical nodes, these are connected to a
SAN using CLVM and AOE protocol.
The cluster suite runs on the physical nodes/servers, in dom0. If I have to
use GFS, where do I install this? What is the right approach to using GFS
with Xen. I see 2 options:
1. I install GFS inside each domU (unprivileged domain, the actual VM).
2. I install GFS on CLVM volu...

lenny amd64 and xen.
I''ve installed debian lenny amd64, it is frozen now.
I''ve install kernel for xen support but it doesn''t start.
It says "you need to load kernel first" but I''ve installed all the packages
concerning xen, also packages related to the kernel.
Perhaps lenny doesn''t support xen anymore?
Any solution?

Right way to do SAN-based shared storage?
I'm trying to set up SAN-based shared storage in KVM, key word being
"shared" across multiple KVM servers for a) live migration and b)
clustering purposes. But it's surprisingly sparsely documented. For
starters, what type of pool should I be using?
