Embedding, core dumps, etc.
Well, nothing has changed in the issues that I brought up earlier,
except that I can confirm core dumps in non-threaded lisps as well
(CLISP), using svn version 37840 (this morning, Seattle time) for
R-2-3-patches. I've not tried Thomas' suggested fixes, as I'm
hesistant to go down the road of fixing R in such a way that would
require constant patching.
(so for those counting, neither CLISP, CMUCL, nor SBCL can embed

removing NA from a data frame
Hi,
It appears that deal does not support missing values (NA), so I need to
remove them (NAs) from my data frame.
how do I do this?
(I am very new to R, so a detailed step-by-step
explanation with code samples would be nice).
Some columns (variables) have quite a few NAs, so I would rather drop
the whole column than sacrifice all the rows (observations) which have
NA in that column.
How do I

I don't want to be left at the mercy of Richard Stallman to decide
whether or not the work is "not otherwise based on the runtime
library" after the CLISP debacle.

are comparable to GGobi's (more flexible, but less scalable). Plus,
it truly works cross platform.
CommonLispStat is fast (SBCL and CMUCL are compiled, not interpreted,
commonlisps), but needs a bit of work with numerics (SBCL isn't
stable), and Graphics (CLISP doesn't quite like it yet; though tk and
gtk2 supported), and decisions about object systems (the old
prototypes vs. CLOS) are still open, both being available at this
point.
Also back on topic, Duncan T-L had a nice embedding of R/XLispStat
that worked nicely, but XLIsp isn't a rapidly e...

possibility of R/Maxima linking
...bypass the parsing
and just call MEVAL directly.
Although several interfaces which are based on sockets
have been created, I believe it should be possible to directly
link Maxima with R, if Maxima is compiled with a Lisp
variety which is implemented in C. I believe direct linkage
is possible with Clisp, and maybe with GCL as well.
Whether or not this scheme works depends pretty strongly
on how much effort is needed to munge R objects into Lisp.
Maybe someone has some comments about that.
There is more that can be said but I'll let this be enough for now.
all the best,

You do know that the GNU tools don't cause their output to be GPL'ed,
right? http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#CanIUseGPLToolsForNF

Is there anything else besides GNU or any other targets in the future?
My goal is to be able to not have all the binaries coming out to be GPL..
If not, I will have to go back to using C as an intermediate language.
