Samba 2.2.4 frequent mangled names clashes
Hi all,
while working with Netbench I've discovered that mangled directory names
clash rather frequently with Samba 2.2.4:
If I take an NT box, open the cmd prompt and make the following
directories on a Samba share, client100 and client121, both mangle to
CLIEN~GH.
If I create directories client100 through client130 I see 11 clashes
altogether:
CLIEN~GH: client100 client121
CLIEN~MF:

[Fwd: Joining AD - wrong DNS name, wrong keytab]
...is set OK - client.base.example.com (as it is specified in join
command).
SPN is not. And it is as well confusing - I can provide UPN, but cannot
say what will be in SPN.
But if this is working as designed, I cease any questions.
The DNS setup is done to easily distinguish between servers and cliens
mainly as well as other services.

Hi Samba List,
I am finding a strange problem between a mount samba directory. Any
clues why this is happening?
The server side is WD MyBook World Edition II and the export directory
is: /shares/internal/Music/
on the client site I am mounting the directory to /mnt/mybook-music
the client is an ubuntu server

Then I brought it to a new site and it no worky. Yes, the DOMAIN is

domain. I have lost the battle and have reverted to basic configs which

samba-tool illegal instruction setting up Kerberos auth for http
Hi all,
Has anyone noticed this behaviour in samba-tool? I was trying to do the
Apache Single Sign on authentication:

Maybe I wrote it misleading, its just a DNS name, not whole active
directory subdomain.

Samba strange problem
seems i have a strange problem :
I use a samba file server that uses X windows. When I upload files from a
windows 2000 clien, the server (freebsd 4.4) seems to stop working : I can't
ping anymore, I can not use any connections either and I have to reboot to
get a connection back.
The very strange thing is that when I do not startx the samba server is
working fine ... upload and

What's the best way to authenticate against Active Directory?
Hi all,
I'm working on a replacement for a legacy linux mail server: courier POP/IMAP, Postfix, OpenLDAP. One of the requirements of the new mail server is to authenticate against our AD infrastructure (I'll still keep a userdb in OpenLDAP). SSO is not required since most of the clients don't log into our domain. The current system has about 1,000 concurrent users on it during

changes, there are lots of formatting changes, and things like
additions of "XXX: ..." comments that don't say anything helpful -
these will need removing before the patches are really reviewable.
A higher-level description of what you're attempting to accomplish
with these patchsets would also be very helpful - but much more detail
than "performance and reliability".

Master Works, Slave Does Not
Hello,
I am presently upgrading my servers. The old ones are running Suse 10.1 and I am upgrading to the most recent Debian.
Oh, and I am not an IT guy rather a hacker who loves Linux and seems to enjoy getting myself confused.
Presently I am trying to get the Nut running and am having problems.
I have the master server working but it does not inform the slave server to shut down.

is the domain-name in smb.conf case-sensitive?
hi list,
i try since weeks to authenticate my linux-clients against my samba-server.
This works very fine with 2 windoze-cliens. but i still cannot
authenticate with my linux-clients.
i am @office now, thats wy i ask instead to test:
i heard, winbind is used to authenticate linux-clients against the
samba-server. the wbinfo -u gives me back:
DOMAIN-user (i use the minus as separator)
so i should be able to authenticate...
