Samba 2.2.4 frequent mangled names clashes
Hi all, while working with Netbench I've discovered that mangled directory names clash rather frequently with Samba 2.2.4: If I take an NT box, open the cmd prompt and make the following directories on a Samba share, client100 and client121, both mangle to CLIEN~GH. If I create directories client100 through client130 I see 11 clashes altogether: CLIEN~GH: client100 client121 CLIEN~MF: client101 client120 CLIEN~4L: client102 client123 CLIEN~AJ: client103 client122 CLIEN~ZP: client104 client125 CLIEN~$N: client105 cl...

[Fwd: Joining AD - wrong DNS name, wrong keytab]
Thank you for input! UPN is set OK - client.base.example.com (as it is specified in join command). SPN is not. And it is as well confusing - I can provide UPN, but cannot say what will be in SPN. But if this is working as designed, I cease any questions. The DNS setup is done to easily distinguish between servers and cliens mainly as w...

Samba strange problem
seems i have a strange problem : I use a samba file server that uses X windows. When I upload files from a windows 2000 clien, the server (freebsd 4.4) seems to stop working : I can't ping anymore, I can not use any connections either and I have to reboot to get a connection back. The very strange thing is that when I do not startx the samba server is working fine ... upload and download. It's also working fi...

What's the best way to authenticate against Active Directory?
Hi all, I'm working on a replacement for a legacy linux mail server: courier POP/IMAP, Postfix, OpenLDAP. One of the requirements of the new mail server is to authenticate against our AD infrastructure (I'll still keep a userdb in OpenLDAP). SSO is not required since most of the clients don't log into our domain. The current system has about 1,000 concurrent users on it during the day (almost all are IMAP users). Inbox size varies but is generally very high 1GB+. I'm considering dovecot as a replacement for courier IMAP on the new server mainly for performance r...

Master Works, Slave Does Not
...server working but it does not inform the slave server to shut down. For the most part I borrowed the settings from my present servers (the ones running Suse 10.1). Below is the setup (all references are from the Nut perspective) and when I supply low batter/AC the master server shuts down but the client server does not. Keep in mind I copied the parameters from my existing server (master 192.168.0.3, clien 192.168.0.4) which has been running fine for years (although I remember many head banging times getting that to run at the time). My new server IP's are: 192.168.0.7 is the master 1...

...f a directory with name ending with ".". For example, when I enter a directory named "RPMs.", I see no files in the directory even though there are actually files in the directory. Also when I try to rename a folder from, say, "RPMs" to "RPMs." from a Win2k client, it will immediately revert its name to "RPMs". Is this a bug, or is this the way it's supposed to be?
