Dual Timing Sources
Hi, With a digium dual PRI card (dual span). Is there any reason I can't have both PRIs being PRIMARY timing sources? They are both from different CLECs, and as such I need them both to do their own timing.

Setting Caller-ID / Point Codes
Greetings folks, I'm currently dealing with a company to let me set Caller-ID-Name on outbound calls. So far pretty happy with their services. The basic service works like this: * CLEC sets Point Code to point to this company * CLEC has to sign LOA saying they give me permission to set the Caller-ID-Name through this company. * I go into web interface and set name. However, the CLEC is currently asking questions about the LOA, and I am concerned they may not sign it. What do ot...

SIP - Problem with audio clipping
Using a SIP connection with a CLEC, the downstream (received) audio is perfect when the mute button is activated on the phone. However, when there is upstream audio (i.e., talking or even breathing into the microphone), the downstream audio is cut off. It's kinda like having a half-duplex audio connection. When I divert o...

Zaptel DACS and FDL
I have the following configuration: CLEC -> T-1 -> Asterisk -> Adtran Channel Bank -> (analog) -> Nortel Don't complain that it's ugly. I've already done plenty of that. The CLEC manages their Adtran remotely and needs to be able to continue to do so. I assume they use FDL to do the management. We are usi...

Local Outbound Calls on PRI
...to place a local outgoing call. Long Distance over the same PRI works fine. When I attempt to place a local call using the PRI I see Asterisk attempt to dial, and am greeted with a busy signal. This signal appears to originate on the telco's switch. I have had a central office tech from the CLEC insert a monitor in the distribution point on the switch and observe call flow. According to the tech call flow appears proper, and he was able to tell me the number I was calling from and the number I attempted to dial. He then placed a PRI test-set at the distribution point in the switch and su...

FW: [isp-clec] Treasury disconnects tax on long-distance calls - with refunds
FYI Brian Fertig Treasury disconnects tax on long-distance calls WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - The brief Spanish-American War ended more than a century ago, but not the federal tax assessed to fund the victory. Until now. On Thursday, the U.S. Treasury said it would stop collecting the 3% federal excise tax on long-distance calls, a fee originally assessed in 1898. The government also said it

Stumped on LD questions......
...espective networks. I don't want to do this. I want a LD provider that can take a IP, SIP, IAX hand-off and terminate the call. I have talked and received pricing from ATT, MCI and Alliance Telecom. Any other suggestions???? I'm looking for wholesale pricing for termination as we are a CLEC. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Regards, Ty Carter

Softswitch
Pardon my ignorance, but I was hoping someone could clear up something for me. - For a few POTS lines, digium has a single port card for that, or a T1 card to a channel bank. - For 10 or more lines, digium has a T1 or E1 card for that too based on PRI channels - For 100's to 1000's of lines, I suspect a soft-switch is in order??? A traditional phone company will sell: - POTS lines for

Two Stage Dialing for MF CAMA trunk
Hi all, I am trying to setup a ZAP interface to do MF signaling for a handoff to a 911 tandem. The signaling I need to perform on the T1 is this: 9-1-1 Tandem: Wink CLEC end office: KP (Keypulse) NPA ST (Start) 9-1-1 Tandem: Wink CLEC end office: KP I (Info Digit) NXX XXXX ST As I'm not as familiar with the Zaptel configurabliity, I'm not really sure how to do this. Do I dial twice or something similar in the dial plan? Thanks, William _______________...

Is libpri symmetrical?
My client would like to add new functionality, such as call queuing, to their PBX. They presently have a Telrad PBX; it has a T1/PRI circuit from the CLEC and a few POTS lines. They use DID for some incoming calls and an attendant for calls on the main number. The client's commitment to customer service will not allow us to outright replace their PBX with a new system--we could never have a replacement system up on Monday morning without at...

SIP Trunking Mantra (Origination)
...rver.... Even though it was natural to talk about "pricing", this is still not what we are interested in knowing. What we are interested in finding out is: * How are service providers that offer "virtual pris" interconnected with their suppliers? I would imagine that some (non-CLECS), are renting a connection from the LECs, and grouping PRI/ISDN trunks (option 2). And others (CLECS), have a A-Link/ISUP trunk interconnect to the CO. - Which brings up a second question. How does a PRI trunk group differ from an ISUP trunk. I don't know much about and ISUP trunks and w...

What are the various models of DID providers
Hi, Inspired by a recent rant about one particular provider, I am getting very curious about something I've never mastered. I'd like someone to explain this here or at least post a link or two that can educate me and probably countless others who have no knowledge in this area. I'm sure there are several of you reading this that know all about the subject. What are the various

Zork and Asterisk
...There are beta tests of the LumenVox speech recognition engine out there which tie directly into Asterisk. Allison Smith (the voice of Asterisk) would almost CERTAINLY do a great dramatic reading of all of the text blocks within Zork. I see an excellent opportunity for a demo server on some CLEC who would love to get some $ by opening up a few DIDs to a huge recip comp traffic load. Even if it's just available via IAX2 or SIP, this would be one of those "legends of the Net" in the next few years... JT

best ISDN BRI solution for DID
I want to test asterisk with its DID functions on a smaller scale without the expense of a PRI. I am in the US, and want the most reliable/stable, and feature rich solution that I can have. What ISDN card would be reccommended? My clec switch operator says he can/will send DID info to my BRI's if I wish. Can Asterisk, or one of its addons support this? What BRI solution would be reccommended? ISDN4Linux, chan_capi? Any info is appreciated, I hope to get this right the first time without having to buy more hardware after t...

CAMA MF signaling for a 911 Trunk
...need to handoff using CAMA signaling. On a Cisco, you can see the configuration types that I'm referring to on this site as an example: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps221/prod_configuration_guide09186a008019b16e.html#35393 The example of the interaction is the following: CLEC end office: Seizure 9-1-1 Tandem: Wink CLEC end office: KP (Keypulse) NPA ST (Start) 9-1-1 Tandem: Wink CLEC end office: KP I (Info Digit) NXX XXXX ST The call is originating from the VoIP side. I have calling and called number in the SIP invite. For the life of me, I can't figure out how...

MI2
My CLEC just called and asked if we will support the "MI2" protocol on our proposed T1 circuit. I think this is for CallerID name. Will the T100P support this? Thanks, Mike

More asymmetrical call quality discussion
...fectly. I hear caller with extreme choppiness. Can make out ~30% of conversation. I've tested this with two VoIP providers, same issue. Tested an IAX2 DID from a different area code and THE PROBLEM RESOLVES ITSELF. Others on this list have reported similar issues which seem to point to the CLEC who is bridging the call to IP. (I assume that's how it works? Someone please correct me?) Using ulaw all around. ZTDUMMY is loaded and modprobe returns nothing. HYPOTHESIS: A. Could there simply be a configuration issue with the VoIP provider where they are interfacing with the PSTN, and t...

Asterisk Busy Detect
Hi, Is my CLEC feeding me a line, or is this really how it has to be? When I dial a number on their system, if it's busy I get a busy back right away. If I dial a number on say Verizon's system, the CLEC sends me a "call preceding event", and then I get a BUSY back from Verizon. Should the CL...

E911 from Remote Office via PRI
Central business location has a PRI with a CLEC. Remote offices access the PRI for all voice traffic via VoIP. How does one get the telco to report the address of a remote office to the 911 call center when the call is made from that respective location?
