EMC CX4 Clariion
Hi,
We had received a new EMC storage (Clariion CX4) and the EMC analist has
told us that CentOS aren't on their support list, but RHEL are :)
Well anybody on the list has a CentOS host talking (iSCSI) with an EMC storage,
preferably using the EMC Powerpath software, and can talk about you experience?
Or I will need to buy some REHL lic...

EMC Clariion stanby power supply
Hello All.
I'm working on building support for the Clariion range of standby power
supplies. I've found you can get hold of these easily on ebay like:

Ocfs and EMC Powerpath
A couple years ago, we moved to Oracle RAC on Linux using ocfs that is
SAN attached to an EMC CLARiiON. At the time, there was a reason that we
did NOT use EMC's Powerpath (I just can't recall what that reason was).
What I'd like to know is if there are any issues with introducing
Powerpath now.
* RHEL 2.1 AS
* 2.4.9-e.38enterprise
* ocfs-2.4.9-e-enterprise-1.0.13-1

ZFS and powerpath
How much fun can you have with a simple thing like powerpath?
Here''s the story: I have a (remote) system with access to a couple
of EMC LUNs. Originally, I set it up with mpxio and created a simple
zpool containing the two LUNs.
It''s now been reconfigured to use powerpath instead of mpxio.
My problem is that I can''t import the pool. I get:

Again ZFS with expanding LUNs!
Hello,
I know, that you had this discussion a view days ago but I''m in the installation phase of our new production servers and I intend to migrate the data from UFS volumes to ZFS volumes in near future. For doing this it must be ABSOLUTELY sure that I can resize the SAN LUNs because during the last 4 years I had to double the LUN size every year. I tried to resize a test volume

what's the advantage of NetworkManager for server?
...have UPS
with a few minutes run time, the systems affected by this weren't
previously classed as 'critical' enough to have dual feeds, although
that might change in the next few weeks).? So, we have a virtualization
host in an IBM Bladecenter with iSCSI shared storage on some? EMC
Clariion LUNs through a Cisco 7609 switch/router with RSP720.? Anyone
who has ever dealt with these items in a cold boot situation probably
knows how the litany goes at this point.....
Prior to the NetworkManager intelligence, I would have to manually reset
the host in the Bladecenter after the EMC was...

LVM hatred, was Re: /boot on a separate partition?
...tracts away some of them. ....
I'll give an example. I have a backup server, and for various reasons
(hardlinks primarily) all the data needs to be in a single filesystem.
However, this is running on an older VMware ESX server, and those have a
2TB LUN size limit. So, even though my EMC Clariion arrays can deal
with 10TB LUNs without issue, the VMware ESX and all of its guests
cannot. So, I have a lot of RDMs for the guests. The backup server's
LVM looks like this:
[root at backup-rdc ~]# pvscan
PV /dev/sdd1 VG vg_opt lvm2 [1.95 TB / 0 free]
PV /dev/sde1 VG vg_o...

10+ TB RAID experiences?
...2 TB. Looking at the IBM
System Storage devices, for example, they offer 12 TB and up.
I'm not sure of the budget, so I'll discount cost for now.
How good are IBM's rack RAID devices? I'm just looking at their System
Storage DS4xxx line.
How about EMC? Network Appliance? Clariion?
Quality of unit, reliability of unit andservice and support, overall cost
of ownership? Expandability?
Thanks for any and all insights.

Limited write bandwidth from ext3
We are running a benchmark that does single threaded 512 KB writes to a
LUN on a CLARiiON storage array. The dual Xeon host (Dell 2650) with 4
GB of memory runs RHEL 4U3
We measured the write bandwidth for writes to the block device
corresponding to the lun (e.g. /dev/sdb), a file in an ext2 filesystem
and to a file in an ext3 file system.
Write b/w for 512 KB writes
Block device 312...

Other than that, they seem to work fine.
Hope that helps.

CentOS and EMC PowerPath/Naviagent
Is anyone using CentOS 4.4 with an EMC Clariion SAN?
In particular, I want to know if PowerPath and Naviagent will work on a
CentOS 4 system connected to a san using Qlogic or Emulex cards. I tried
a couple years ago with Fedora Core 1 or 2, and couldn't get the kernel
modules from PowerPath to work since the kernel wasn't the official...

whatsoever!
For those who are interested, we have a cluster of 5 web/imap servers
(running our own webmail software) and a further 5 pop servers all placed
behind 2 Zeus load balancers and running RHEL 4 (actually CentOS 4.1).
Storage is provided by an EMC Clariion device, which is mounted via NFS onto
all servers in the cluster over gigabit ethernet.
1. index files
The main problem has always been the index files becoming corrupted. This
seems to have improved with the Alpha 4 release, but still happens for
several users each day. Perhaps it would be possi...

what's the advantage of NetworkManager for server?
Hi:
I always use network-scripts to start network at EL7.
NetworkManager is not as good as network scripts under that OS.
but now EL8 said that network-scripts is depreciated. I wonder if
I should still use network-scripts to start network? I am afraid
there will be new bugs for the network-scripts, like systemd service
unit dependency. although it is solid at EL7.
