rsync --link-dest, --delete and hard-link count
Hello fellas, Firstly, I would like to apologize for the post being long, but I would appreciate if someone with a good knowledge of the subject gave his opinion. I am working on a backup solution for a series of old and very specialized host computers in aviation industry. I need to do monthly backups of one or two logical volumes (non-OS) on each of the computers and keep the last 12 monthly

ZFS and multipath with iSCSI
...thing to not load-balance? (A load-balanced multipath configuration is simpler for us to administer, at least until I figure out how to tell Solaris multipathing which is the preferrred network for any given iSCSI target so we can balance the overall network load by hand.) Recommendation for dialplan in case of DDoS atta cks?
I'm trying to formulate a strategy for our interconnected Asterisk IAX peers to failover to the PSTN in the event of a DDoS. We currently use them like this: DID--->PRI--->Primary Asterisk--->IAX--->On-site Asterisk--->SIP This works fine, and everyone is happy. One of my concerns, though, is if we get DDoS'd - which happens probably once every couple of years. I'd

hung pool on iscsi
...is going to be pushed out to Solaris 10 anytime soon? I''m getting badly beaten up over this weekly, essentially anytime we drop a packet between our twenty-odd iscsi-backed zones and the filer. Chris was kind enough to provide his synopsis here (thanks Chris): http://utcc.utoronto.ca/~cks/space/blog/solaris/ZFSFailmodeProblem Also, I really need a workaround for the meantime. Is someone out there handy enough with the undocumented stuff to recommend a zdb command or something that will pound the delinquent pool into submission without crashing everything? Surely there'...

Ways to speed up ''zpool import''?
...them and most of the rest of the time doing modctl() calls and ZFS ioctls(). (Also, using ''zpool import -d'' with a prepared directory that has only symlinks to the particular /dev/dsk device entries for a pool''s LUN speeds things up dramatically.) So, are there any tricks to speeding up ZFS pool import here (short of the ''zpool import -d'' stuff)? Would Sun Cluster manage this faster, or does its ZFS pool failover stuff basically reduce to ''zpool import'' too? Thanks in advance. - cks

Can't 'save-as' from MS Word
...aris box running samba 2.0.7. A couple of users on Windows XP clients are reporting problems saving files from within MS Word, and Wordpad to the samba share, which of course is a mapped drive. They get an error saying "This is not a valid file name".... These XP boxes do have the reg hacks plainpassword.reg and signorseal.reg installed. The work around is to save a file to a local directory and then copy the file over to the samba drive via windows explorer, but that s*cks! Any ideas? this is driving us bananas. Thanks, --Gene -----------------------------------------------...

chan_capi syntax
Hi, What is the correct chan_capi dial syntax?? This is what I think it is.. exten => _90.,1,Dial(CAPI/[msn here]:${EXTEN:1}) This seems to work for local numbers.. but I have an access number for cheap long distance calls.. wich gets dialed and then the number I want to call is sent as DTMF after a few waits (w).. On my X100P I used the following.. exten => _9001.,1,Dial(Zap/1/[access

pxe weirdness
I know that this is not a pxelinux/syslinux question (yet), but I am having a weird issue with a HP ML370. It is using HP UNDI PXE 2.1 (build 082) v 3.1.15 I successfully get an IP address from my DHCP server, but the machine fails when it attempts to make it's TFTP connection with: "PXE-E32 - TFTP Open timeout" It never gets the pxelinux.0 file. The odd thing I noticed was

Terrible zfs performance under NFS load
Hello, We have a S10U5 server sharing with zfs sharing up NFS shares. While using the nfs mount for a log destination for syslog for 20 or so busy mail servers we have noticed that the throughput becomes severly degraded shortly. I have tried disabling the zil, turning off cache flushing and I have not seen any changes in performance. The servers are only pushing about 1MB/s of constant

Tracking down the causes of a mysteriously shrinking ARC cache?
...t), top still reports that the system has 8 GB, and vmstat says that there is 1 GB of free memory and no paging activity. Also, is there any way to force-reset the size of the ARC on a live system, so I could at least periodically kick its maximum size up to 5 GB or 6 GB or so and hope that it sticks? Thanks in advance. - cks

How are you supposed to remove faulted spares from pools?
...nd move to a state where I could remove them from the pools? (Would exporting and then importing the pools make any difference, especially if the iSCSI LUNs of the spares were removed? These are production pools, so I can''t just try it to see; it would create a user-visible downtime.) - cks
