Help - samba keeps dialing out
Hi,
I have just set up samba on my FreeBSD 4.5 stable box, and have it
integrating quite nicely with windows 2000 server ( not set up as a PDC
), however the FreeBSD server keeps dialing out approx every 10 minutes
or so.
The FreeBSD Server is also acting as a DNS Server ( IPv4 ) and the dial
up is handled through the tunneling device. This has been working fine
until I have installed samba and

Samba and Win98 dail up connection
I have a home network with my dial up connection on the windows 98 machine.
Since I have installed SAMBA and configured the computers to see each other,
I can no longer pull up a website on the windows 98 machine. The problem is
that I have assigned a permanent IP address for the Intranet. I have to use
DHCP for the dail up connection. Therefore the IP address that I assign to

passwd chat problem
I could not find any reference to this in the list archive.
I am setting up SAMBA on an IRIX system. The passwd command does not say "Password
changed" or similar at the end, it just ends. However, if the command fails for any
reason (unable to get a lock on the passwd file, for example) it does report that.
My problem is that I cannot see any way to get the passwd chat string to

How to switch of the users profile copying ?
Hi all !
I'm using Samba 2.2.3a on a Redhat Linux 7.2 as a Primary Domain Controller
!
My users are mostly use win2000 and the profile directory can be really
large after some month, so in this case I need a lot of Extra storage to
store them on the PDC !
We don't need this feature basically, so is it possible somehow to switch
of this feature ?
Best Regards !

File Size Limitation
I am running Samba on a debian box. I have recently installed Ext3 in
order to allow for large files. I am also running samba 2.2.2-2 on the
box. I am able to create a file natively on linux that is about 5 gigs
or so. Yet I seem to be running into a problem when I try to create a
file larger then 4 gigs from my Win2k box. Is this a know issue? Is
there a work around for it. The file is a

I've gotten 4 e-mails from this list today from people who were sending
out this virus. It appears to be spreading rather quickly. I would
urge all of you to update your virus software and get rid of this bug
quickly.
Thanks,

Win2K can't print to a Samba Printer?
Hello,
** Please CC replies to ian@ichilton.co.uk as I am not subscribed **
I have a Brother laser printer connected to a linux box running Samba.
It is working fine from Win98 workstations, but now I have Win2K on my
laptop, I am unable to print. This is because the linux box obviously
doesn't have the win2k driver so I tried to install it as a local
printer and then change it to a network

"Unexpected network error" copying large files NT->Linux?
Folks --
I've read the FAQ at samba.org/samba/docs/FAQ, I've
searched the mailing list archives for "unexpected
network error", I've searched Google for "samba
unexpected network error", and been unable to find
anything. If there's another source of information
that I should check, I'd greatly appreciate a pointer.
I'm trying to copy files to Samba

Who else can reproduce this problem?
I truely believe I've stumbled across a bug deleting directories. The
bug is either with Windows 2000 or with Samba 2.2.1a and 2.2.2. I'd
tend to think it was a Windows bug except that the problem does not
occur against earlier versions of Samba.
I've duplicated this problem deleting directories to Samba versions
2.2.2 and 2.2.1a in various configurations running on several

smbmount question
Hi,
I'm running Linux 2.2.2 w/ Samba 2.0.2, using the smbmount that comes with
Samba 2.0.2. I noticed that when I mount shares, smbmount sticks around,
almost like a daemon:
[root@jason /root]# smbmount //XXXX.gatech.edu/XXXX$ "XXXXXX" -U jkau
-c "mount /mnt/cnd" < /dev/null > /tmp/smbmount.out
[root@jason /root]# ps ax | grep smbmount

File Permissions
I have set up Samba so that all users on my small network can read from my
one of my Linux shares as well as write to that share.
However, when user A saves a file to that share, user B can't open it -- and
vice versa. How can I set up samba so that all files written to that share can
be read, modified, and deleted by all users?
Thanks in advance for an answer to this question.

force directory mode = 0777
create mode = 0000
force create mode = 0666
on that share.
