Check, and display, AIM status on rails page
...Instant Messenger"
end
end
# end AIM helper
Then just call it from a view with
<%= display_aim_status("YourAIMscreenName") %>
Similar methods could be used for ICQ or Yahoo messenger.
Enjoy.

RoR Logs viewer?
Ok another newbie question.
I did a tail -f on the test.log file for the sample depot application
in Agile Web Development book and was very impressed with the formatted
log entries. Apparently, a lot of effort has been put into this. My
question is: what is the most effective way of viewing this log? tail
command? I ask this question because a bare bones text editor like
gedit or vi will not

Database access for workers
Hi,
nice work on BackgrounDrb! I have a question, though:
What would be the best way to enable database access for a worker,
preferably through ActiveRecord models. Background: I''m trying to
write a worker that periodically gets data from an external source,
writes it to the database and is then displayed by Rails.
Anybody done something like this?
Thanks in advance!

Setting up Mongrel and Apache , some direction needed
I have a site that is PHP on Apache / RedHat , but will send requests to a
subdomain (running Rails) for database operations.
I believe the set up should be to have ROR using Mongrel, and an Apache
virtual host passing requests from apache to mongrel.
Does this sound correct ?
I believe the Virtual Host is set up in Apache.
One of my problems is I can''t find the httpd.conf file for

Poll: Which distro do you use for Rails/Ruby development?
Good afternoon,
I''ve two quick questions for the Ruby/Rails community.
1) Do you use Linux for Ruby or Rails development?
2) If you use Linux, which distro do you normally use to develop?
Thank you for your input. :-)

Paypal and Rails
Hello everyone,
I am looking for a way to pass off a simple payment to paypal using our
own interface. I understand that this requires making full use of
Paypal''s API since we won''t be using their shopping cart or anything. I
found the article by Pranav Bihari on his site and in the Wiki on using
SOAP4R and the paypal WSDL file to interface with paypal web services,
but I
