rsync and chmoding permissions on Windows
I'm trying to use rsync to keep the permissions between two Windows servers.
A windows NT 4 server (with rsync daemon) and windows 2003 R2
I use Rsync in a batch file and I run it as Administrator by double
clicking on it.
Typically:
set cygwin=notnsec
rsync -rpDPo --chmod=Du+rwx,Fu+rwx,+X
and the files are crossed over but the permissions are screwed up.
Now, I can't find out the

rmdir bug?
Samba Developers--
I have a share called pub. In that share, there is a folder that I want to
block access to. So, I chmoded it 0700 and chowned it root. In my smb.conf
file, I set the "guest account" parameter to "netshare", an unprivialized
user. I also set the "guest only" parameter to "yes" No remote computer
can "cd" into the directory,

Share names causing big troubles
...t exist.
I understand that Win 9X can't handle names longer than 13 chars. So
I'm sure some of you have had this problem as well. How did you deal with
it? I really don't want to regenerate the accounts.
I was thinking about just setting the student directory as a share point but
and chmoding all the actual student directories to 700. This works and
students only have access to their own directory BUT you have to look
through 3000 folders to find your home folder and that?s not a good thing.
Is their anywat I can hide the other users folders from the logged in user.

2) Anyway I connect thru ssh and do the work manually :
chmod +x reaper
chmod +x spawner
./reaper --dispatcher=dispatch.fcgi
and the response is :
Couldn''t find any process matching: dispatch.fcgi
By the way, the dispatch.* files are not executable but chmoding them
doesn''t change the response (it is perhaps obvious)
Any idea ?

NFS Stale file handle drives me crazy (Centos 6)
Hi folks,
I have a Centos 6 NFS server, which dirves me crazy.
The directory I try to export cant be accessed by different clients.
I tried a centos 7, centos 6 and a pool of vmware esxi 5.5 systems.
At the client side I get errors like:
mount.nfs: Stale file handle
or Sysinfo set operation VSI_MODULE_NODE_mount failed with the tatus

Problem with permissions
Hi all,
this may be a very stupid question but I just don't really get it.
We are two consultants from two different companies working for a custom er
and are having a problem that we just can't solve, the other consultant is
blaming samba and I want to prove him wrong.
The thing we are looking at right now is that I have a chmoded 777 directory
but in NT4 it appears with:

Changing 644 back to 600 on smbpasswd automatically?
Hi!
I want to list users from smbpasswd (stored in /etc/samba). I chmoded the
file from 600 to 644, to ba able to read it with PHP. After a while somehow
it changed back to 600, so it was fully unreadable again :(
How can I set that the samba don't need to change it back OR change it
deafaultly to 644?

RFE: ctime byte-for-byte reproducible qcow2 ext2/3/4 FS
...er want to reproduce the production of the qcow2 and have the
exact same byte-for-byte file, to prove my build is reproducible.
Currently the ctime attributes of the inodes will differ and thus the
qcow2 files will differ. Since the file times are subsecond the trick
of setting the system time and chmoding the files will not work.
In
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/47440618/changing-qcow2-st-ctime
I mention how debugfs can be used to change the ctimes.
Two possible usages come to mind:
1. A global flag that would indicate the ctime that should be used
for all file operations, e.g. a fake syst...

overview of patches used in Fedora
Hi,
I have gone through the patches that are used in the Fedora package and
probably only the "mkcert-permissions" [1] can be considered to be
included upstream. It is dated into package version 1.0-0.beta2.3, but I
cannot find any particular reason for the inclusion (like a bug in
bugzilla, etc.). Some (winbind support, quota warnings) were obsoleted
by dovecot 1.1, two are used for

cannot execute .exe files from a share
Hello, i've seen this error on the mailing list but no solutions.
Problem: No user can execute an .exe file from a group share under any
windows version (wXP til Windows 7).
Permisions: Every user can read, write, delete, etc in that share.
I've chmoded 777 the file but for nothing. The user can copy the .exe
file to another location like desktop and then can execute it (is a

Problems getting rsync working...
I am having some problems getting rsync working.
No files get copied, although the server HD light DOES come on for about a
second when I run the client rsync command.
The /etc/rsyncd.conf on the server:

Cannot leave voicemail, Asterisk/Zaptel/libpi v1.0.9
Hi,
I'm running two boxes side by side, identical specs and setup but with differing
dialplans. Both are on ast/zap/libpri versions 1.0.9. Both boxes share the same
folder for voicemail, exported via NFS from another file server.
Everything was working fine for an extended period of time, until just recently
when someone rebooted Box A. Now when I dial an extension associated with a SIP

AAF quirks in production mode
So my ferret behaves nicely in dev mode, but I just deployed and now
he is not happy!
First thing I noticed was that in general my app would not start with
a folder called "development" in my index folder, so I changed it to
"production" and now my app is functioning.
However, when I try to search I get errors, which you can see here:

KDE. when I try to rm -f in a console it says it doesn't exist, I can't move

Fun and games with newhidups, udev rules and permissions
...e to get HID descriptor (error sending control message: Operation not permitted)
Doing a manual
chgrp ups /proc/bus/usb/002/002
allows newhidups to work without '-u root'. But the chgrp setting
unsurprisingly evaporates on reboot. The older hotplug systems seem to
work by re-chowning/chmoding things in /proc/bus/usb, but I don't have
this apparatus on my system.
Peter's instructions cover the older 'hotplug' method of handling
permissions. The hardware abstraction seems to have changed quite
rapidly in recent kernels, and as of 2.6.15 I believe that
/proc/bus/usb is ob...

bug when creating /var/run/dovecot?
dovecot-1.2.7
If /var/run/dovecot does not exist when dovecot starts up (e.g. required
when /var/run is a tmpfs/ramfs), it creates it. But it creates it with
the wrong file mode -- the directory is mode 777. Being world writable
means any user could change the name of any file within the directory,
including the login directory, and then create their own new login
directory. Or remove the pid

brlock.tdb/locking.tdb permissions problem?
...amba/var/locks/brlock.tdb): expand_file ftruncate to
8192 failed (Permission denied)
The files in question look like this:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8192 Oct 3 15:30 brlock.tdb
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8192 Oct 3 11:30 locking.tdb
Anything to be gained - or lost - by chmoding 666 on these? Or is the
error message misleading, and referring to a file that these point to
rather than these files?
Thanks much,
