Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland, my users are known to the OS, they also have the correct permissions to alter the settings. Doing so on the CLI does work when logged in via SSH. When opening the Security Tab the users and groups are displayed, only on directories there are no checkmarks under Read, Write etc. I also cannot set any checkmarks for Read, Write etc. When viewing the Security Tab of a file everything

Hi Rowland, I had to split smbd and winbindd config to work around some bugs in credentials offline caching. I have a separate winbindd.conf, it looks like this: [global] ### Network ### netbios name = Fileserver server string = Fileserver (%h V:%v) ### ad member ### workgroup = INTRANET realm = INTRANET.MYCOMPANY.DE security = ADS kerberos method = secrets and

Java RE
Hello. Package Manager reports (with a green checkmark) that I have java-1.6.0 installed on my machine (running Cent 5.3), but it seems to not be running. I used http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml and got "Something is wrong. Java is not working." Perhaps I'm confused on which program I need to use java-coded apps. PM lists this app as "OpenJDK Runtime

Display of Photomatix GUI Has No Buttons, Checkmarks
I would like to use Photomatix Pro 3.1.3 on my WINE install. I was able to successfully install it after installing corefonts and .NET 2.0 using winetricks. The program opens fine but none of the buttons, checkmarks, or other window dressings appear: [Image: http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/7739/photomatix.png ] I have several other applications installed in WINE and none of them exhibit this

ACL Windows GUI to set permissions?
I am implementing Samba 3.05 (Suse Pro 8.2 Reiser File System) member server as a file server on a Windows NT4 network with one NT server (PDC). I am currently using WINS for name resolution on the network. Shortly after adding the Samba member server, I will upgrade NT 4.0 server to Windows 2000 (need samba server to alleviate some nasty disk space constraints). The Samba member server

User mapping/login issue
Ps. Smb1 in Win10 ! I mean ofcourse.. Step 1: Go to Start button and type Control Panel. You will get Control Panel; Desktop app. Click on it. Step 2: You will get a window with a list of software on it, go to the left side of the panel and click Turn Windows Features On or Off. Step 3: You need to remove the checkmark beside SMB 1.0/CFs File Sharing Support to disable SMB1 for good. If you

Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland, when saying 'I' I theoretically meant any user that has write access to the share. It should be possible to right click the directory in windows, the go to security tab and remove the write permissions on the directory. This behaviour already works with files, I'm trying to figure out how to make it also work for directories. Greetings, Felix -----Ursprüngliche

Hi Rowland, yes I do have two separate config files for smbd/nmbd and winbindd. You can tell winbindd to load a separate config file via the "-s" command line switch. Therefore I set "WINBINDD_EXTRA_OPTS" in "/etc/default/sernet-samba" to "-s /etc/samba/winbindd.conf". The "cached_login" option for pam is also set and working. The problem was

Setting up TortoiseSVN and PuTTY on Windows for r-forge.r-project.org (Was: Re: Using SVN + SSH on windows)
Here are some notes/observations I've done on my setup that works for me. Hopefully it will be added to some r-forge documentation/wiki. I use: Windows Vista Business SP2 32bit TortoiseSVN 1.6.7 (Build 18415 - 32 Bit , 2010/01/22 17:55:06) PuTTY v0.60 (with Pageant v0.60) I have a deprecated r-forge project ('r-oo') that I will use through out. My r-forge username is

Forcibly emptying a POP3 mailbox
Hello, I've recently saw a discussion on this list, about a standardised way of emptying POP3 mailboxes on the server - but no solution came up. Please provide a suggestion for the following situation: - I am running a stock POP3 dovecot server, on Fedora 12 (dovecot version 1.2.9) - passwd-file authentication via /etc/imap.passwd - users are virtual, sharing the same UID/GID; -
