Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland,
my users are known to the OS, they also have the correct permissions to alter the settings.
Doing so on the CLI does work when logged in via SSH.
When opening the Security Tab the users and groups are displayed, only on directories there are no checkmarks under Read, Write etc.
I also cannot set any checkmarks for Read, Write etc.
When viewing the Security Tab of a file everything works and I can see and set the checkmarks.
Do you know what could be wrong?
Greetings,
Felix

Disable ipv6 on the windows server try again. That just a checkmark and much less risk.
That "should" work also.
Or set dedicated ip's.

Java RE
Hello.
Package Manager reports (with a green checkmark) that I have java-1.6.0
installed on my machine (running Cent 5.3), but it seems to not be
running. I used http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml and got
"Something is wrong. Java is not working."
Perhaps I'm confused on which program I need to use java-coded apps. PM

Display of Photomatix GUI Has No Buttons, Checkmarks
I would like to use Photomatix Pro 3.1.3 on my WINE install. I was able to successfully install it after installing corefonts and .NET 2.0 using winetricks. The program opens fine but none of the buttons, checkmarks, or other window dressings appear:
[Image: http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/7739/photomatix.png ]
I have several other applications installed in WINE and none of them exhibit this strange behavior. Moreover, I installed Photomatix 3.0.3 and it also looks like this, but Photomatix 2.5.4 looks norm...

ACL Windows GUI to set permissions?
...commending it.
I have already set 'nt acl support = yes' in smb.conf file.
In Win2K, when I try to access the security properties on a Samba share
I have full rights to, all users are shown as not having any
permissions. If I attempt to change ACL information, the check boxes
get checkmarks, but when I close and re-open, all checkmarks are gone.
When I click the advanced button, permissions are shown accurately.
When I attempt to access security permissions on a directory (Samba
share) I have full rights on from a Windows NT server I get a "The

User mapping/login issue
...n10 ! I mean ofcourse..
Step 1: Go to Start button and type Control Panel. You will get Control Panel; Desktop app. Click on it.
Step 2: You will get a window with a list of software on it, go to the left side of the panel and click Turn Windows Features On or Off.
Step 3: You need to remove the checkmark beside SMB 1.0/CFs File Sharing Support to disable SMB1 for good. If you want to enable it, put a checkmark beside the same.
And after seeing this,
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/openspecs/windows_protocols/ms-smb2/fac3655a-7eb5-4337-b0ab-244bbcd014e8
@Rowland, can you do a read in this one....

Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland,
when saying 'I' I theoretically meant any user that has write access to the share.
It should be possible to right click the directory in windows, the go to security tab and remove the write permissions on the directory.
This behaviour already works with files, I'm trying to figure out how to make it also work for directories.
Greetings,
Felix

AD DC Corrupt recycle bin in redirected folders
...roblem isn't the corrupt recycle bin
error. Once this happens the user is denied all access to the redirected
folders- I just mentioned the recycle bin because that's the first error
the user sees.
I've revisited the wiki on redirected folders many many times to no avail.
Yet placing a checkmark on replacing permissions for subfolders in advanced
fixes the problem every time. Any insight whatsoever would be greatly
appreciated! I'm forced to fix this 2 or 3 times a day now.

Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied.
...up with.
acl_xattr:ignore system acl = yes
but think before you set that one, if you set, apply/check all of the above again.
Now last.
On the security tab, klik advanced.
In above setup, the owner should be root. That is correct keep it.
Klik on change permissions.
( optional ) Remove the checkmark from "Include inheritable permissions from this objects perent"
And set the other one. (Obligated)
Apply.
Im assuming you kept the default "primary group" in the AD, for the users.
So it should be "domain users" .
The setup works as followed.
Share rights, allows...

Setting up TortoiseSVN and PuTTY on Windows for r-forge.r-project.org (Was: Re: Using SVN + SSH on windows)
...atement. Click OK.
8. Look in your local r-oo,R-forge/ directory in Windows Explorer (not
Internet Explorer); it should now be populated with directories and
files, and (possibly hidden) .svn/ directories. All directories,
except the .svn/ ones, now have a small overlay icon showing a "green
checkmark", which indicates that the local file is up to date with the
file on the r-forge SVN repository.
I.B. COMMITS
1. Edit r-oo,R-forge/README (which is one of the files that comes with
all r-forge projects). I just add one line "foo" at the top so there
is a change. Close the editor....

Forcibly emptying a POP3 mailbox
Hello,
I've recently saw a discussion on this list, about a standardised way of
emptying POP3 mailboxes on the server - but no solution came up.
Please provide a suggestion for the following situation:
- I am running a stock POP3 dovecot server, on Fedora 12 (dovecot
version 1.2.9)
- passwd-file authentication via /etc/imap.passwd
- users are virtual, sharing the same UID/GID;
