zfs chattiness at boot time
Hi all, I recently started seeing zfs chattiness at boot time: "reading zfs config" and something like "mounting zfs filesystems (n/n)". Is this really necessary? I thought with SMF the times where every script announced its'' existance had gone (and good thing, too). Can''t we print something only...

excessive TCP retransmissions with samba 3.0, slow file opening
Hello all! I've got a Fedora Core 3 box running Samba 3.0.8. It serves a variety of roles, including mail server and samba server. The mail server is quite fast, but the smb server generates lots and lots of TCP retransmissions (as seen in ethereal). The general consensus is that this is new in the last few weeks. One user has been reporting speed problems for some time, but no metrics were

Sendmail: timeout waiting for input from local during Draining Input
Hi folks, I've recently replaced a RedHat EL 3.x system with a CentOS 5 system (fully yum'd as of Tuesday). This was a full-pave install, although we did copy the sendmail.mc from the original system. Now I get a lot of this in my logs: Dec 7 11:47:38 mail sendmail[20117]: lB7Gl6w0020116: timeout waiting for input from local during Draining Input The only thing even remotely

1.2.1 "Silence suppression is disabled" whatthehell?
I looks like someone decided to bundle a patch that hasn't been merged yet. Good for testing, not so good for initial impressions. In /etc/asterisk/asterisk.conf add or uncomment this: [options] ;silence_suppression=yes And see if that helps. You need a timing source for it to work, which is why it is disabled by default, but the logging might be a bit chatty in any case. Dan

Unexpected blkif status disconnected
I was playing with suspending and resuming Xen domains. Suspend and restore seems to work. However, when I reconnected with ''xm console'', I got the following error message on screen. Should I be concerned? [root@ROUGE xen]# xm console FedoraCore2 ************ REMOTE CONSOLE: CTRL-] TO QUIT ******** xen_blk: Unexpected blkif status disconnected in state connected blkfront:

SSH Compression - Block Deduplication
Hello, I did a search against the list archive and didn't see any comments on the topic of using deduplication as a compression algorithm. This is just a suggestion for the developers to think about. Block de-duplication is found in higher end WAN gear. The idea is to mantain an indexed dictionary of data blocks. If a matching block is found prior to transmission, a token (hash id)

Learning ham/spam with IMAPSieve: sa-learn-ham.sh terminated abnormally, signal 11
> make sa-laern-ham.sh change name to rspamd-learn-ham.sh and addopt sieve > to that name change I thought about the same thing while following the wiki guide. But in the end it's just the name of a bash script. Now I changed it as you proposed, since it just makes more sense, but the error remains: Error: program `/usr/lib/dovecot/sieve/rspamd-learn-ham.sh'

How does verbosity work?
I'm trying to track down a CPU spike we are seeing in a system. We have tracked down the spike to a single CPU and TID using that CPU. Indications are that it's asterisk running this TID. I'm trying to figure out what asterisk is doing on this thread around that time, but haven't been able to match the tid to anything I'm seeing in asterisk debugging. Is there a good way to

PAM auth with disabled user
Is it intentional that password auth using PAM continues trying to log on (giving password 3 prompts) in the case that a user is disabled (so that pam_account returns an error code). It can be argued both ways (saying 'you are disabled' is giving out too much information, making it look like you are entering the wrong password confuses and frustrates the user)

Samba just Slow with AutoCad?
Brian I might suggest a couple of setting changes on your XP machines: 1) Open services and stop/disable Web Client 2) Open windows explorer, go to tools>folder options, click the View tab, and uncheck the "Automatically search for network folders and printers" (I'm assuming Windows XP Professional on these settings) Restart and try your printers again.
