zfs chattiness at boot time
Hi all, I recently started seeing zfs chattiness at boot time: "reading zfs config" and something like "mounting zfs filesystems (n/n)". Is this really necessary? I thought with SMF the times where every script announced its'' existance had gone (and good thing, too). Can''t we print something only if it goes wrong? Michael -- Michael Schuster Recursion,

[LLVMdev] Chatty C++API code generation

high load printing with 3.2.15
Hi, I am still struggling with the printing in a AD2008 R2 environment I changed to 3.2.15 by now. Still very slow, I am running on solaris 10. Not sure if my clients are so chatty by now but it is really killing any performance. Using truss I see loads of: 19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE640) = 0 19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE150) = 0 19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE218) = 0 19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE578...

file locking question
...a linux server running samba for filesharing and I use NFS to make these shares available on another linux server that also runs samba to share the same shares will the locking still work properly? I can use this to get around an issue with multiple authentication domains and I suspect NFS is less chatty than SMB anyway so will mean a peformance win as well across the WAN. Can you see any other problems with this setup? TIA, Greg

Sendmail: timeout waiting for input from local during Draining Input
...we did copy the sendmail.mc from the original system. Now I get a lot of this in my logs: Dec 7 11:47:38 mail sendmail[20117]: lB7Gl6w0020116: timeout waiting for input from local during Draining Input The only thing even remotely credible is a Sendmail Known Bugs page which suggests it is a chatty local delivery agent, but since this is happening with outbound messages I don't think I believe this. Does anyone have any ideas what Sendmail is trying to tell me here? -- /\oo/\ / /()\ \ David Mackintosh | dave at xdroop.com | http://www.xdroop.com -------------- next part ---...

excessive TCP retransmissions with samba 3.0, slow file opening
Hello all! I've got a Fedora Core 3 box running Samba 3.0.8. It serves a variety of roles, including mail server and samba server. The mail server is quite fast, but the smb server generates lots and lots of TCP retransmissions (as seen in ethereal). The general consensus is that this is new in the last few weeks. One user has been reporting speed problems for some time, but no metrics were

R: R: Hidden Markov Models
Thank you for your prompt answer. The breathing signal observations are the amplitude values as a function of time and phase. According to our model the hidden states are the different breathing types. Subjects, whose respiratiion process is regular, are likely to breathe, keeping the same cycle pattern/type, for many consecutive cycles. therefore dwelling in the same hidden state. The more

How to enable R on-line search in HTML help
I use FireFox as my favourite web browser on my Mac OS/X 10.5 I double-checked that Java and Java scripts are enabled for FireFox. Nevertheless, I cannot use R on-line search help. I called Apple Tech Assistance but they do not support FireFox. We tried to set Saphari as the favourite browser but evidently R does not support it. ...een merged yet. Good for testing, not so good for initial impressions. In /etc/asterisk/asterisk.conf add or uncomment this: [options] ;silence_suppression=yes And see if that helps. Confusion over how to configure WINS
We have a network of about 24 remote site all connecting to our home office across a mixture of private frame relay and VPN across the internet. In order to simplify our life, and at the same time, reduce the amount of non critical and chatty traffic transversing the WAN links during business hours, we are putting servers at each remote to do DHCP, DNS, WINS, and file and print sharing. From the documentation, I'm not sure whether we need to turn WINS server on at each remote site. Or if I need to set WINS proxy to yes, and put in...

SSH Compression - Block Deduplication
...ld suggest a default of per-session only cache/dictionary with a switch to enable a persistent disk based cache/dictionary. Dictionaries would probably be maintained seperately on a per host basis. My hope is that this sort of compression would greatly help remote X11 display. Latency and the chatty nature of X11 is still an issue. But this would help with painting of bitmap patterns. Matt

Safe to ignore this message ? -Attempt to bind using schannel without successful serverauth2
...part of normal operation .... If anyone can confirm that this is part of normal operation, or shed some light on what this means, I would appreciate it. We have been using Samba 2.2.8a for a few years now, and entries to the log files are very infrequent. Perhaps the newer versions are just more chatty to the log files. If there is something wrong, I would like to deal with it before I go live with the server. Below is my smb.conf file, minus the shares.
