I want to be able to exctract a matrix from a data frame that contains repeated measurements for individuals. i.e I want to exctract the second observation for each individual in the study. Is there a way of doing this? I guess what I am trying to ask is if there as a multidimensional version of aggregate() as in aggregate(data, list(data[,"ID"]), function(x) x[2,]) but aggregate will

KMO sampling adequacy and SPSS -- partial solution
Dear colleagues, I've been searching for information on the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) Measure of Sampling Adequacy (MSA). This statistic is generated in SPSS and is often used to determine if a dataset is "appropriate" for factor analysis -- it's true utility seems quite low, but it seems to come up in stats classes a lot. It did in mine, and a glance through the R-help

NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL message-- were to look?
Hi folks, I'm trying to access a shared printer on a windows machine. The windows box (call it "Doze") is located behind a router/printserver, and is set up thus: -DOZE connects to the printer via the printserver using the PRTMATE port, and then shares the printer via smb -- workgroup CHASS, server name HIS-FACLAB, printer name his-fac-lex -Router forwards all incoming connections

Kendall's tau-c
Hello, I can't find a package which calculates Kendall's tau-c. There is the package Kendall, but it only calcuates Kendall's tau-b. Here is the example from ttp://www2.chass.ncsu.edu/garson/pa765/assocordinal.htm. cityriots <- data.frame(citysize=c(1,1,2,2,3,3), riotsize=c(1,2,1,2,1,2), weight=c(4,2,2,3,0,4)) cityriots <- data.frame(lapply(cityriots, function(x)

Dear R users, I have got two samples: sample A with observation of 223: sample A has five categories: 1,2,3,4,5 (I use the numer 1,2,3,4,5 to define the five differen categories) there are 5 observations in category 1; 81 observations in category 2;110 observations in category 3; 27 observations in category 4; 0 observations in category 5; To present the sample in R: a<-rep(1:5,

...eneralized linear models. Indeed, the anova function produces sequential tests and it doesn't have any "type" argument to specify that we would like marginal tests instead, as in the similar anova function for lme objects. ...n. I read in Pinheiro & Bates (2000) p84 that BIC = -2logL + npar*log(N) (for the ML method), or BIC = -2logLR + npar*log(N-p) (for the REML method) but when I use any of these formulae I don't obtain the result given by R. percentile-percentile plot
Hi, Is there a function that does percentile-percentile plot. I do not mean the qqplot. I need to plot the percentiles rather than points themselves. I am hoping for a plot that tells me that the x percentile of one data set corresponds to the y percentile of the other. for example a point on the plot of (.5, .2) will tell me that the 50th percentile of the first data and the 20th percentile of

gsub
Hi A while back I used gsub to do the following temp<-"000US00231" gsub("something here", "", temp) "00231" I think it involved the `meta characters' somehow. I do not know how to do this anymore. I know strsplit will also work but I remember gsub was much faster. In essence the question is how to delete all characters before a particular

[PATCH] support ruby in the xapian-bindings rpm spec
Hi All, I've needed to build ruby bindings for xapian recently and discovered that the default .spec file doesn't support ruby by default. The attached patch adds this support to the spec file in a manner consistent (I think) with the other bindings. I hope you find this useful.
