TOSHAG-ChangeNotes.xml translate finished and some typo found
Now, TOSHARG-ChangeNotes.xml translate to Japanese finished(3.4.0 base). And some typo found. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Assume that a group named <emphasis>developers</emphasis> exists with a UNIX GID of 782. In this case this user does not exist in Samba'...

group changes?
...n users couldn't connect to any shares they were groups on in /etc/groups (shares used valid users = @groupname) but could connect to shares where valid users = their_username. I did some reading and saw the group mapping change at http://us5.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/ChangeNotes.html#id2550114 And then I did net groupmap add unixgroup=mygroups and that worked Can I ask, why the change, and why do I have to execute that command for each group instead of samba just getting who's in the group from /etc/group?

wbinfo -u - do I need to worry?
Hi all, Will keep this brief :-) Just trying to clear some things up regarding winbind. wbinfo -u returns "Error looking up domain users". I'm only using winbind for ntlm_auth which works fine. I'm not using AD or any Windows server-based domain. Samba only. There don't seem to be any obvious errors in the winbind log. Do I need to worry about that error? Should it

Question on Samba and LDAP
If I have read the documentation correctly, it looks like you can not have a fail over LDAP server defined in the smb.conf file for the passdb backend. It looks like this feature was taken away in an earlier release. Is this correct? If not could somebody steer me in the right direction. Thanks, Gary

looking for up-to-date documentation on trusts
...for the section on Interdomain trusts (Apr 2003, doesn't mention anything beyond Windows 2000.) http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/InterdomainTrusts .html The change notes also stop at that samba 3.0.x series http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/ChangeNotes.html I have a Samba Domain (3.0.x PDC, 3.4.x BDC), Windows 2003 domain (mixed mode) and a Windows 2008 domain (2003 compatible mode) . I have trusts between the samba and 2003 domain (access to shares on the samba 3.4.x server is more reliable than the 3.0.x one.) I can't get trusts worki...

problem after update 3.0.22 -> 3.0.24
Hello everybody, we were running into trouble after upgrading our samba PDC to a new hardware (and a new debian release). Before the upgrade we used 3.0.22 on a debian sarge machine without problems. Moving the installation to a new machine with debian etch (amd64, samba 3.0.24-6etch4) worked good at the first look. A closer look shows the following problems: - a domain member server (samba

Can not grant SeMachineAccountPrivilege on Debian Etch
I am testing out Debian Etch, and ran into an issue granting SeMachineAccountPrivilege to an account... which granting that permission had been troublesome in the past. The command I am issuing is: net rpc rights grant LDS-DEMO\\ldsinst SeMachineAccountPrivilege And I try running the command with an account that is a member of the "Domain Admins" group. The command returns: Failed to

Yes, https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/ChangeNotes.html (Unmapped users are now assigned a SID in the S-1-22-1 domain and unmapped groups are assigned a SID in the S-1-22-2 domain) https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-3.0.23c.html This was one that lead me to the 2 above links. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/31109871/mapping-sambas-s-1...

Samba on Debian: Sarge -> Etch = broken guest shares
I upgraded a server from Debian Sarge to Etch the other day. Today I discovered a fairly major issue... All the shares I had set up for guest access have stopped working. The shares are meant to be writable by me and a few others, and read only for guest, but it's flat out refusing to authenticate anyone using guest (or unknown users which should be mapping to guest). SMB.conf is below

ham, No access to share
...group mapping? Did you take into account the ldap schema changes since 3.0.23? Are your groups domain groups? If yes, then it should be "valid users = DOMAIN\%S" and "valid users = @DOMAIN\admin, @DOMAIN\users". See http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/ChangeNotes.html. You also have two "paths" listed under [profiles]. Can't think of anything more to suggest. If all this fails, provide an error log to the list. Good luck, Dale Chris Boyd wrote: Running Debian Etch with Samba-3.0.24 and ldap... I've set up a few users as part of the a...

Samba-AD HowTo Was: RE: Can't get single sign on to workafter joining linux toan AD domain
For everyone else's reference, John just gave me a call and issued a challenge to put my money where my (big) mouth is. So i'll be doing some work on the documentation in the next little while, specifically to do with adding Samba member servers to an AD infrastructure. If you have troubleshooting tips you picked up, or suggestions of things that need to be included, please let me know.
