navigation mode(s) in rgl
...om the broader community of any insights.
In rgl my understanding is that there's only one rotation-navigation mode,
where you left-click hold and the view pivots abound the centre of the
scene.
In other tools, including Google Earth, that is the default behaviour but
there's also a click-centric mode where the view pivots about the point
clicked on.
I haven't found the right terminology for this, but I call it
1) Data-centric navigation, rotating about the centre of the data in the
scene (invoked by left-click-drag in rgl and GE and others)
2) Click-centric navigation, rotating abou...

Controllers - model vs. use case centric
I am working on a reasonably large application (which happens to be my
first with rails).
I was hoping to get some input on organisation of controllers and
actions.
I am finding having used scaffolding more at the beginning my
controllers tend to be very model centric, in that they mostly contain
all the actions for management of that particular model, which may crash
across multiple use cases. I find this effective in the sense it keeps
related actions together. However I am wondering whether it makes more
sense to split more administrative actions out into...

Making a backend-centric application
Is Rails usable for a backend/server-centric application? The
application is supposed to just sit there and grab data from various
sources at certain times, process them, stuff them in a database.
These data will then be presented in different ways, via a web-
frontend, webservices (rest), json and such.
Would Rails be a usable way to do thi...

That's not quite true: there are several modes built in, and the
possibility of adding your own.

GE centricity viewer??
I picked up some data from the nearest hospital to take to the
specialist at the next one, with whom I had an appt.; it came on a CD,
which is marked "DICOM Volume with GE Centricity Viewer."
When I put the CD into a drive, Fedora 11 auto-mounts it, and
fails to find the autorun.exe, which is right there in plain sight. (F11
knows it exists, and asks whether to run it, and then fails. This is
currently normal for most M$-intended media.)
So I open the file, find...

Rails and Theme Centric Design
I''ve been developing a system in PHP5 that began as a loose MVC
architecture. At some point though, we decided to introduce themes, and
we didn''t want people confined to having to have specific ''pages'' in
their theme for the site to operate. Rather we wanted a series of basic
API calls that users could access in their themes and get data. These
api calls

[LLVMdev] Compiler Centric Career Opportunities in finance
Hi --
I'm working with a number of finance companies in New York City and Chicago which are looking to develop languages and platforms in order to process extremely large datasets. As such, we are looking for people with experience and / or interest in programming language and compiler design -- hence my posting on the LLVM mailing list.
Goldman Sachs most famously developed Slang and

[OT] Rails hosting question -- video centric
...in choosing a hosting provider for such a thing.
When the site gets more traffic I have some good local choices for
dedicated servers / co location, but for now I''m looking for a virtual
host.
I already use a virtual host for other Rails and PHP applications, but
those are mostly database-centric apps. Now I need larger bandwidth
and storage space, but still the ability to log in as root, install
whatever I want, run Rails, etc.
If anyone has experience with this type of hosting, or even any tips
and pitfalls related to video hosting in general, I would be very
grateful to hear about them...

Several libraries won't load with (PR#6927)

2. This doesn't explain why the freshly downloaded Hmisc and multcomp
packages didn't load. I now think that is due to a documentation
problem. I am using Windows. All the documentation for installing
packages is Unix-centric. Your emails were also Unix-centric.
After wandering through documentation I initially unzipped the
downloaded files, for example,
Windows binary: Hmisc_2.0-9.zip
into the rw1090pat/library. This unpacked correctly but did not load.
After your emails, I tried Rgui and found the "Packag...

[OT] Best Blog + Wiki opinions?
...Bliki) apps. I''d
prefer Rails, I want to hear opinions on all options!
I''ve browsed through W:Bliki <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bliki>. Nothing
in that list is immediately compelling.
This is for my wife, who is not a technologist, and has a need to create a
information-centric website. I''m looking for options that would allow blog
integration as well.
Question to answer for your suggestions: In the bliki you suggest, does the
blogging filter understand wiki formatting?
Let me hear it!

OS X-centricities? Too many files, temp, indexes, etc...
I'm just writing to see if anyone else is seeing the following issues,
and particularly if they are running OS X (especially 10.4), and/or have
compatible solutions (I've been reading the mailing list quite a bit,
and every now and then, I find a solution that just "doesn't work"
because of the differences in OS:
1) Too many files open - no plimit command on OS X, so I

[Zaptel] Why no port to Windos?
Hello
I was wondering why there doesn't seem to a Windows version of Zaptel,
making the Digium and its clones unavailable for a Windows PBX.
Is the Zaptel/Zapata combo too *nix-centric?
Thanks.

siemens pbx and asterisk
Hello all,
I'm new to asterisk. Our company wants to setup an asterisk server and will
eventually move to IP centric phones, but they don't want to just throw away
the old Siemens PBX, so during the process we want to integrate it with
asterisk. Is it possible? and how?
thanks.

Editors which have strong/solid support for SWeave?
Greetings!
I have a few colleagues who like the idea of Sweave, but have failed
to become enlightened monks of the One True Editor
(http://www.dina.dk/~abraham/religion/)
Are there any other Microsoft-centric editors or IDEs which have solid
support for writing SWeave documents (dual R / LaTeX enhancements
similar to ESS's support)? Has anyone tried the folding editors which
support Noweb?
(the alternative would be brainwashing, but that is generally frowned upon ;-).
best,
