scaling-centering a vector using an index
dear all,
I would like to center and scale some columns of a data frame (these
include NAs) according to the levels of an index (list of factors from
the same data frame).
I tried to code it using for loops but gave up. I guess there is a
straightforward way to achieve this: any hint welcome!
thanks a lot

pb of importation data: truncation...
Dear all,
I'm importing some data (with read.table, file ".txt") but I have some
problem: R truncates my numeric data at 2 digits during the
importation... It's the first time that I see that.
Thanks for an answer.

Clustering and Calinski's index
I have to solve a clustering problem.
My first step is to determinate the number of clusters, that's why I 'm using
the Calinski index ( [tr(b)/(k-1)]/[tr(w)/(k-1)] ) which i try to maximize
to have the best number of clusters.
A function is already implemented in R to calculate this index :
clustIndex(cl,x, index="calinski")
where cl is the result of a clustering method ,

Sgeostat module
Dear Users,
I use Sgeostat to calculate co variogram (function est.variogram with two
variables).
If i inverse the 2 variables in the functions, the co variogram change!
Normaly it is symmetric, isn't it?
Someone could me explain why, or give me an idea to calculate co variogram
in a easy way...
Thanks in advance
Laurent

glmm
Hello,
I would like to fit generalized linear mixed models but I did not find
the package allowing such procedure.
R help under nlme package gives me "glmmPQL(MASS)" but this file does
not appear in contributed packages.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

performing type III
Hi,
I meet some tecnhical problem when performing type III test in an
analysis of covariance.
I code with contrast=sum and precise type="III" for the anova table.
There is a warning message like this:
Models with response "NULL" removed and type I is performed by default.
And R-Help is not very clear on use of contrasts.
Please don't rush in the usual holy war about

obtaining means/SD after fitting a mixed model
Hello,
I am running (non-balanced) mixed models (using library lme4) such as :
model1<-glmmPQL(Y~grouping variable+ covariate, random=~1|yr/month,
data=dat, family= gaussian or poisson)
and besides the usual output in terms of the statistical significance of
the fitted coefficients, I'd like to obtain the adjusted means and standard
deviations (as one obtains after fitting a lm model).

glm and overdispersion
Hi,
I am performing glm with binomial family and my data show slight
overdispersion (HF<1.5). Nevertheless, in order to take into account for
this heterogeneity though weak, I use F-test rather than Chi-square
(Krackow & Tkadlec, 2001). But surprisingly, outputs of this two tests
are exactly similar. What is the reason and how can I scale the output
by overdispersion ??
Thank you,
