samba and automount
I'm running Samba with automount to automatically mount CDs in a server. These CDs need to be changed periodically, so I wanted to use automount so that they could be changed by the users fairly easily. We use logon scripts to map the CDs to drive letters when users logon. Unfortunately, it seems that having a drive mapped is treated like the drive is bei...

Buy CentOS CDs/DVDs in France?
Hi, I'd like to buy a set of CentOS CDs: 4CDs + 1 DVD. I'm on dialup, so this is the best solution for me. Plus, usually CDs from the store are better quality and tend to last longer in my humble experience. Normally I buy my CDs at ikarios.fr, but strangely, they only sell Centos 3.7 CDs. I mailed them about 2 weeks ago, but got no...

CD Baby using FLAC to archive 40,000 CDs
Hey FLAC gang - Just thought you'd like to know CD Baby has switched to FLAC for archiving the 40,000 CDs we have in stock. Luckily HD space is down below $1/gig so we got a 6-terabyte RAID-5 box set up for about $7000. Got the FreeBSD boxes churning away night and day, ripping and archiving. I'll do a more formal press release for ya in a couple months as we're further along, but just wante...

Audio CDs not detected by winecfg, and dbpoweramp CD Ripper
Hi ! Audio CDs seem to be invisible to winecfg. I want to use dbpowerramp CD Ripper under Linux using WINE. CD Ripper doesn't see audio CDs, too. I am using WINE 1.3.33, Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. Ubuntu itself correctly identifies the CD drives, and the Audio CDs. The CD-Rom-Drives are internal ATAPI drives, and e...

Well, even if you do have a lot of Morton Feldman (currently my record for best compression ratio--about 0.25 or so), I don't think you're going to get 40,000 CDs ont...

CDs for R?
...ed from CRAN. Some of us are on narrow bandwidth dialup connections, so downloading large quantities of stuff is out of the question (e.g. at approx. 5min/MB, it would take over 2 days to download a single CD). The meat of CRAN (including contributed packages and documentation) is enough to fill 5 CDs, though one individual probably wouldn't be interested in all of that. (And, before anyone asks, no I won't be seeing broadband in the foreseeable future!) I've worked round this in various ways in the past. Some Linux distributions (e.g. RedHat, SuSE) come with the basics of R on the...

Linux Live CDs with Xen Support
Hi, does anybody have a list of working Linux Live CDs with Xen Support which I can use in a Xen Domain? What I''m looking for is more or less something like Knoppix with Xen Support so that I can use the yet-not-supported hardware of my Ferrari 4005 in the Linux Domain regards Bernd This message posted from opensolaris.org

Hi list, I would really like to see support for .cda as input files. The cda format is the one used on regular audio CDs. Support for this format would make it even easier to encode to FLAC from CDs -- Daniel Aleksandersen

This file is usually called from within a WINDOWS program called DISTANCE. I have some R script from the developers of the original software which apparently makes a call to this .EXE file which i need to re-engineer slightly, but i am having difficulty interpreting how the script make...

You don't actually lose the audio data, right, just the structure of the CD (which can probably be captured with cue files anyway)? I've ripped CDs with pregap audio before, and I'm pretty...
