Ubuntu Dapper packages
Hi all,
Daniele Favara was kind enough to package Xapian (and Pinot :-) for Dapper
and Xubuntu. I understand Daniele used cdbs to build these packages.
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/devel/cdbs
I am not sure if the differences with the official packages built for Debian and
Breezy are significant...
Anyway, if you would like to give them a go, add the following to your
sources.list :

Dtracing scsi
A small script to see what SCSI commands are being issued by a system:
http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/chrisg?entry=scsi_d_script
Still work in progress as I needs to handle larger CDBs but it is a start, since I don''t have a disk that big it is not a problem for me yet.
Also getting the return scsi packet is a hack but so far I can see no alternative short of knowing about all the possible completion routines or getting Dtrace to write D.

.deb packages [was: Re: backporting changes from the trunk...]
...ith version 2.2.2-1.
When I checked the contents of the .debs from r1490, I also noticed
the nut-xml .deb package is almost empty - it probably needs another
mv command in debian/rules to add the driver.
Arnaud: Let me know if you are already working on this.
In a similar vein, I have been using cdbs at work - it is actually
fairly nice, for the common rule cases. There are some issues with
overriding the default rules - basically, you can't, you just have to
reimplement them - but I don't think that NUT will have much trouble
with the defaults since it uses debhelper now.

RFC on first public draft of 'Debian R Policy'
...s of creating a Debian package from
an R package on CRAN could be automated to a large extent, leaving the
possibility of eventually providing a tool like dh-make-r akin to the
existing dh-make-perl which aids in creating Debian packages from CPAN
modules. This has become a lot easier thank to the cdbs package and its
ability to reduce a debian/rules file to a few lines. In fact, Albrecht
Gebhardt at the University of Klagenfurt has already build a mostly complete
infrastructure to do this, and we intent to eventually provide Debian package
via apt-get'able section of the CRAN mirror network....

Some install package fixes for Ubuntu Hardy
I encountered some failures in using install.packages() to install rgl
and rJava in some of my (multiple) Ubuntu Hardy systems. A quick search
of the 'Net did not show any debian packages for these. The
install.packages messages said header or other files were missing,
suggesting path and related woes. Email with Duncan Murdoch (thanks!)
pointed the way with rgl and led to a fix for rJava

I would confirm whether I get the segfault problem.) My sessioninfo() is

debian *.install files
Hi!
Put these in the debian directory to make the packages produced by
dpkg-buildpackage actually contain the files of interest.
Note that the build process actually doesn't work now, because building
outside of the source tree fails (e.g. ./obj-i386-linux that debian
uses). The problem is in the python things in doc/Makefile.am, someone
might want to have a look at that. Should be
