Moving a Centos 5 install to another disk
I want to get Centos 5 on my notebook, at minimal risk. I want to install it on a clean drive, make sure it 'works', the delete everything but /home (which is on a separate partition) from the Centos 4 drive and copy the Centos 5 over. Any 'caviats'? I would first tar up the Centos 4 stuff before putting my foot into it. To what extent do I need to have the same drive layouts? Is it enough that /boot and / are consistant (ie each is in its own partition). I am working with /home in a separate partition. Thanks for the help!

Help in starting spamassassin
I have installed spamassassin, per the instructions on Scalix's wiki, and it is working, with some important caviats. So I asked for help on the spamassassin user list, and got some, but I think I am butting up against some Centos specific issues... This is what I am seeing in the maillog: Aug 17 14:39:59 z9m9z sendmail[13082]: l7HIdvGf013082: Milter add: header: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.1.9...

good news for solaris8 &3.4p1
Thanks go to Darren Tucker who posted about "#if 0" on auth-pam.c I saw his email in the archive, about solaris 7. I removed the "#if 0", and finally, password expiration works. A caviat or two: If UseLogin=no (the default) , if a user fails to use the correct password for a "change on first login" account, you get the following message: sshd(SYSTEM): Sorry, wrong passwd removing root credentials would break the rpc services that use secure rpc on this host! roo...

WINS problem?
...the network, booting all Win 2k boxes, then plugging the Solaris box back in. This fix allows all clients to properly connect to the shares, but is not really a viable long-term solution. This is a new problem that hasn't occured on a network that has been working properly until now, with one caviat. The Solaris box is maintained by an outside vendor. I doubt they have changed anything in the Samba configuration, but I don't know for sure. Additionally, I do not have access to that machine. All of the other information I've found so far relates to Win 2k servers and is in some way re...

Some more general questions
Hi, Some general questions. I want to build a web page with numerical analysis generated by R. I have a few questions: - Can I control the output of a function? For example, if I do: > summary(data[[5]]) Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max. 0.0 0.0 120.0 193.3 310.0 10290.0 can I control the output to be something like min=0 q1=0.0 q2=120.0 q3=193.3 max=10290.0

E-Mail Serving Options
Hi All, What are my e-mail serving options? I need to host POP, IMAP and SMTP. I must admit that non-windows e-mail hosting has always been a chore for me. I remember QMail and QPopper IIRC. -Jason

480i User Feedback With Asterisk (fwd)
...ible. The display occasionally shows "L1" in the lower left hand corner of the display. As if someone had pressed the left/right arrows of the navigation pad. It shows up for less than a second, and then goes away. On to the good things now. ;-) Conference basically works, save for the caviats above. The backlight is very nice, and the surface of the LCD does not show fingerprints like the Cisco phones do. Sound quality is good with ULAW codec, but there is noticable echo in the call that is not present when using a Cisco phone, or a Softphone. Transfer seems to work fine. Message l...

Making TIFF images with rtiff
Many medical journals and publishers require that images, whether photographs or line art, be submitted as high resolution .TIFF images. One option for R users is to produce an image in one format and to convert it to a .TIFF file using a second software program. My experience has been that this option often results in images of poorer quality, often with blurry contours, and a loss of
