need help with smooth.spline
...sired pressures are unusable. A dataframe with four such profiles, indicated by values of id, is attached. My target values for pressure are seq(25,1600,25), but 1:500 is also interesting. Setting all.knots = TRUE helps, but it would be nice to be able to do better. Any suggestions? When I follow one of the search result links everything is fine, but when I go back to follow another link, I find them all inactive. So I have to redo the search. Any suggestions? adding regression curve to xyplot
Dear R-listers, It seems that predict() behaves differently within panel.xyplot. Am I doing something stupid? Thanks, Carlisle First, without xyplot(): > lmtest <- lm(t~s,data=subset(P100,whichLon100==1 & whichLat100==1)) > lmtest Call: lm(formula = s ~ t, data = subset(P100, whichLon100 == 1 & whichLat100 == 1)) Coefficients: (Intercept) t 33.3307 0.1393 > range(P100$t) [1]...

overlapping plots
How to combine three plots so that they partially overlap? As the data on all three are near the left side and top, it would be nice to draw the first, shift axes down and to the right and draw the second, and shift again to draw the third. I could shift the data for the 2nd and 3rd plots and construct their axes by hand, but it would be great if R has an easier way.

k-d tree for loess
...s and Hastie(1993) explains the locations are nodes of a k-d tree. but I cannot find anything about accessing this information. It would be useful to superimpose on such plots contours of the weights for at least one point. Sample code of drawing such plots would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Carlisle Thacker

coupled statistical models
...ional term: sum_id((sum_p(vp)-h_id)^2) where vp is a function of a_p t_id,p + b_k and of t_id. The functions for vp are nonlinear, but if necessary with some work it should be possible to get a linear function that is good enough. Also, not all stations have values at all pressures. problem with xyplot
...onP==2 & whichLatP==3 & P0$t<6,] xyplot(t~s,data=temp, subset = id>100000000, groups = id%/%1000) # get different labels but all groups Also, for other plots involving large dataframes, specifying groups made the plotting very slow. Is there a bug, or am I screwing up? Thanks, Carlisle

Adding units to levelplot's colorkey
How to add units (e.g. "cm") to the color key of a lattice levelplot? The plots looks fantastic, but it would be nice to indicate somewhere near the end of the color key that the values associated with its colors are in centimeters or some other physical units. The only thing I find is the possibility to specify the labels so that one explicitly includes the units. That leaves

Oceanographic lattice plots?
R 1.8.0 on Windows XP Professional. A huge THANK YOU to the R Team for this marvelous software. I am making lattice plots of oceanographic data. The usual layout does not conform to plotting conventions that marine scientists use when depth is the independent variable. Under those conventions, plots are made with the origin at the upper left, depth on the vertical axis (increasing as it

Disable certain facter facts?
We found out, the hard way, that version 1.7 of Facter adds facts for mounted linux file systems. This is nice for normal servers. For a server hosting Oracle not so good. We went from about 100 facts per server to well over 3,000 (our Oracle boxes have quite a few volumes mounted). Of course, this choked our ENC (Foreman) having this many facts pumped into it and required us to downgrade
