OT: hardware, IBM 3650 M2 won't power on
Just for grins, pull off the cover and look at the electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard.
Look for ones with the tops pushed up instead of being flat. This can cause all sorts of odd behavior. Often the machine with a blown capacitor will continue to run till it is powered off. Mostly I see this on Dell machines but have seen it on other machines as well. They...

Do I need a ring capacitor to use TDM400P cards in UK
Hello
I have played about with a TDM400 card and plugged in some standard analog phones. I am using the card in FXS mode - for analog extensions. I did notice that one of my phones did not ring and I wondered why. I later read in Paul Mahler's book VoIP Telephony with Asterisk that in his section on the TDM400 on page 127 he says "In the UK, you may need an adapter that provides a

Reg errors? Other anomalies? Check those capacitors!
Three months ago, I was experiencing all sorts of issues with my Asterisk
box maintaining a connection to multiple trunks, etc. I also experienced
various timing issues as well. In addition, Asterisk would sometimes take
almost a minute to fully load and register its SIP and IAX trunks.
Puzzled, I recompiled several times. No result. I checked my hardware.
Didn't find anything. However, I did

Server hangs on CentOS 5.5
Hi --
I'm running a server which is usually stable, but every
once in a while it hangs. The server is used as a file
store using NFS and to run VMware machines.
I don't see anything in /var/log/messages or elsewhere
to indicate any problem or offer any clue why the system
was hung.
Any suggestions where I might look for a clue?

How do I approach this problem?
I'm having a problem that I hope those with greater experience might
have some ideas on.
I live up in the mountains where the power is ill-conditioned.
Transients which would cause a computer to reboot occur on a daily
basis. Power failures are frequent and can last anywhere from five
minutes to five days. I have all my computers on UPSs so the first two
problems are solved. I have a

Although batteries have disappeared in favour of NV storage + capacitors, meaning you don't have to replace anything on those models.

TDM11B pinout
Hi Asterisk Community,
I have a development with a TDM11B in it. I am trying to connect this to a
exchange line as well as a UK telephone and are looking for some pinout
information for the FXS port. Is it the centre 2 pins that at the tip and ring.
I have been digging around the Digium site but cannot seem to pick up this info.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Centos/Linux Disk Caching, might be OT in some ways
I'm trying to optimize some database app running on a CentOS server
and wanted to confirm some things about the disk/file caching
mechanism.
>From what I've read, Linux has a Virtual Filesystem layer that sits
between the physical file system and everything else. So no matter
what FS is used, applications are still addressing the VFS. Due to
this, disk caching is done on an inode/block

Question about Tripp-Lite UPS life span
...or made from chinesium, that is ) is a
fair assumption. Practice teaches us that not all fair assumptions are
also true :)
Now, in the event that the UPS will refuse to come up even with the old
batteries, I suggest a careful inspection of the electronic board, of
the cables and especially of capacitors and places where the cables are
soldered. Capacitors DO age with time and a bad connection ( maybe a
cable just got loose ) may prevent proper functioning.
