changing the eye candy on the default screensaver
Has anyone already worked out the files involved in changing from the
rather pedestrian screensaver to some more pleasing eye candy like
Fedora Core 5 uses?

rarefy a matrix of counts
Hi all,
I have a matrix of counts for objects (rows) by samples (columns). I aimed
for about 500 counts in each sample (I have about 80 samples) and would now
like to rarefy these down to 100 counts in each sample using simple random
sampling without replacement. I plan on rarefying several times for each
sample. I could do the tedious looping task of making a list of all objects

how do I stop automount of Hitichi Lifestudio USB drive
Most of the time, if I plug a USB drive into my computer,
gnome/centos/whatever will ask me what I want to do with it.
With a Hitachi Lifestudio, all the partitions mount without asking me.
How do I stop that behavior?
My suspicion is that the same kind of
mechanism is what makes candy drops work.
So far as I know, my backup drive is not candy,
but I would still like to be able to control my computer.

Renaming Journey and avoiding libraries with common noun names
Hi all,
I know this is a long shot, but could renaming the "Journey" module please
be considered by those in a position to support it?
I''ve written an issue on this in the journey repo also:
https://github.com/rails/journey/issues/49
Essentially our project has a model named Journey, the same as Rails 3.2''s
new routing driver. As a consequence we can no longer

Centos5, Compiz, and Nvidia
Hi!
Just did a TEST install of centos5 on an old PIII box.
one of the things I wanted to see was the fancy desktop eye-candy of
compiz and/or beryl.
This box has a nvidia 6600 series card, and I've isntalled the Nvidia
drivers (download from nvidia and run their installer).
I used the software updater to install compiz (didn't show up on original
install, perhaps I didn't hold my tongue the right way. :)

Introducing ConVirt 2.0
...to slap a web interface on a fuel injection system (or maybe at least give access to the magic a la MegaSquirt), but a bunch of assholes are still going to blow something up. It's not going to give any admin worth his or her salt a boner because it's not readily scriptable and it amounts to candy for retards. Secondly, everything else that it does is already there. If you can't do it, you shouldn't be touching the machines.
The tool may or may not address some vanilla installations (if there ever was one), but if you need something like that, you are probably better off with EC2 or...

Minimal CentOS
Hi! and a warm hello to the CentOS team.
I have a work for which I need some solution from you. Actually we
have some thin clients where we want to put a light weight Linux
distro for users. As of now I have tested with Fedora and Ubuntu
distros but the issue I am finding is they are not able to fit in my
requirement of flash based hard disk consumption (~500 MB). although a
distro named TinyME

GSOC '08 hardware accelerated video decoding
...hardware
accelerated video decoding for the nouveau driver and wanted some
feedback.
I know that this isn't a big priority at the moment amongst the
regular contributors, but I think it would make a good GSOC project
because of it's somewhat narrow scope. I think for a lot of people 3D
eye candy isn't a feature they're desperate for, they just care about
a functional and efficient 2D driver, and having video acceleration
would complement that nicely and entice them to switch from the Nvidia
binary driver and the old nv driver long before the people who want
the 3D features.
I'...

I am interesting about the negative testing in the llvm.
Is there some test about how to use the negative in the llvm?

Not sure, but if you made entries for it in /etc/fstab that
explicitly said not to mount, that might do the trick.
It looks as if the "noauto" option should d...

Howto uninstall compiz from Kubuntu
Compiz:
A colleague tempted me with compiz eye candy, and I tried it.
Sorry, but many features were too far outside my usability comfort zone:
- lazy mouse (in /this/ day and age???)
- The Run window did not reliably pop up
- minimize-all-windows turned everything black
Some of those items were configurable. Some required multiple, diverse...

Oddsock oddity
I have Oddsock loaded and it will not complete the connecto to the server. I
have been trying it in MP3 first before I move to Ogg to be sure I am
understanding all I need to know. And it will connect and the eye candy will
go let to right and the server will show that there is a connection, but the
thing never sends data and a media player like WinAMP will will tell me that
there is no ICY service available. I have loaded lame_enc.dll in the WinAMP
plugin folder and the Oddsock DSP tells me 0 kbyes Total of...

compiz/gl-x crashes my games!
I'm running Mandriva 2007 and like the eye candy of of the 3d desktop but wine
is more important to me. Whenever I start with with the 3d desktop turned on
though any 3d games I have will either crash or report that I don't have a 3d card.
Is there any way round this or am I to be denied the pleasure of the wibbly
wobbly windows?

General compiz questions
I've been using compiz on KDE for a while now and I like the eye
candy. Thanks to all who made this possible. I'm usually a no-nonsense
guy who doesn't care about eye candy (I'm not even using a background
picture because I'm worried about the memory it'll use (on a machine
with 2 GB of RAM) :) ) but compiz stormed (sic!) my defences.
Now for my q...
