enable client to join domain with no or any password?
...rd, does not matter) server: set client_machine accept_only_password (CLOSE THE HOLE) That way the password would never be stored on the client. It should be safe enough since the security hole is only opened for a single machine, and then only for a limited time. There are serial, usb, and EPO connectors on the back of the unit. (There may be a manual but I'm going to have to hunt for it.) If so I suppose it should be marked the same way, but at least for the /dev/md0 form that isn't an option since there is ONLY /dev/md0, and no /dev/md1. ....20) = 166907917926 which is 3.6% larger than volsize. Is this a bug or a feature for sparse volumes? If a feature, how much larger than volsize/compressratio can the actual used storage space grow? e.g., fixed amount overhead and/or fixed percentage? ...me subnet, so the client can see the MAC. Else, how does the XP client realize the server has changed and fail to logon? This is only a minor PITA for me, since there are only 8 clients involved. It would be really painful though for a site with hundreds of clients. Thanks, David Mathog mathog@caltech.edu Manager, Sequence Analysis Facility, Biology Division, Caltech

upgrade broke XP workstation logins, variably
.... I already tried turning off the firewall on the server and it made no difference. SMB folder mounting works 100% reliably. It is only the domain logins that are (very) iffy. tcpdump of failed logins shows a very large number of packets being sent from the workstation like this: xpmachine.caltech.edu.1026 > smbserver.netbios-ssn with absolutely nothing going back. log.nmbd has these lines (as if it is working correctly) Samba server SAFSERVER is now a domain master browser for workgroup SAF on subnet 131.215.12.42 Samba server SAFSERVER is now a local master browser for workgroup...
