ZFS and Live Upgrade
Is there any update/work-around/patch/etc as of the S10u4 WOS for the bugs that existed with respect to LU, Zones, and ZFS? More specifically, the following: 6359924 live upgrade needs to include support for zfs I can''t even find that bug ID on bugs.opensolaris.org (or via sunsolve when I''m logged in for that matter) anymore. Basically, one couldn''t put zoneroot on

zpool split problem?
Zpool split is a wonderful feature and it seems to work well, and the choice of which disk got which name was perfect! But there seems to be an odd anomaly (at least with b132) . Started with c0t1d0s0 running b132 (root pool is called rpool) Attached c0t0d0s0 and waited for it to resilver Rebooted from c0t0d0s0 zpool split rpool spool Rebooted from c0t0d0s0, both rpool and spool were mounted

sharing a ssd between rpool and l2arc
...2ARC. For small form factor machines or machines with max capacity of 8GB of RAM (a typical home system) this can make a pleasant improvement over a HDD-only implementation." For the upcoming 2010.03 release and now testing with a b134. What is the most appropiate way to accomplish this? The caiman installer allows you to control the size of the partition on the boot disk but it doesn''t allow you (at least I couldn''t figure out how) to control the size of the slices. So you end with slice0 filling the entire partition. Now this leaves you with two options, create a second p...

SUMMARY: mounting datasets from a read-only pool with aid of tmpfs
...repopulated the zpool properties (failmode, bootfs) as well as initial values of zfs properties that I wanted (copies=2, dedup=off, compression=off). Then I used installgrub to ensure that the new rpool is bootable. I also set the zfs properties I wanted (i.e. copies=2, also canmount, mountpoint, caiman.* and others set by OpenIndiana, compression=on where allowed - on non-root datasets) on the rpool hierarchy copy in pool. Even though the actual data on "pool" was written with copies=1, the property value copies=2 will be copied and applied during "zfs send|zfs recv". Now I c...

sub-optimal ZFS performance
Hello, ZFS is behaving strange on a OSOL laptop, your thoughts are welcome. I am running OSOL on my laptop, currently b124 and i found that the performance of ZFS is not optimal in all situations. If i check the how much space the package cache for pkg(1) uses, it takes a bit longer on this host than on comparable machine to which i transferred all the data. user at host:/var/pkg$ time

ZFS Hardware Check, OS X Compatibility, NEWBIE!!
This is my first post here, and i hope it is ok that i posted in this thread. I have been doing a bit of reading on the solaris platforms, and seem to be inclined to try out the open solaris os or solaris 10. My only worry is that my lack of knowledge with the command line may make this difficult regarding trouble shooting. It seems fairly straighforward creating zpools etc, but maybe nexenta is

separate home "partition"?
(i use the term loosely because i know that zfs likes whole volumes better) when installing ubuntu, i got in the habit of using a separate partition for my home directory so that my data and gnome settings would all remain intact when i reinstalled or upgraded. i''m running osol 2008.11 on an ultra 20, which has only two drives. i''ve got all my data located in my home directory,
