Shielding of T1/E1 cables WAS RE: Pinouts for T1/E1 crossover cable WAS "RE: what cable to connect a legacy PBX to a TE410P ?"
I was once told by a lineman that the cables they use didn't have that many twists in them because it wasn't needed, and that the extra twists would effectively use more cable and thus cost and weigh more than triple what they do now. He told me that with the number of twists in the Cat 5 cable it would cancel out any interference, but he also stated that the effective length was

Pinouts for T1/E1 crossover cable WAS "RE: what cable to connect a legacy PBX to a TE410P ?"
Can't anyone stop self-promotion and tell the poor guy what he needs. A T1/E1 X-over cable using an RJ-45 (8-cond.) is pinned out as follows: 1 - 4 2 - 5 3 - NU 4 - 1 5 - 2 6 - NU 7 - NU 8 - NU NU = Not Used I have not in my experience seen any problems with using a Good Quality Cat5 vs. Cat 3 (telco standard) cable for X-connects. YMMV, but you should be fine. As far as the shielding

Polycom 501 power over ethernet
When I bought two Polycom 501 SIP phones, I naively thought they were Power-over-Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af) because they were "powered over ethernet." Silly me. Polycom must have some odd voltage or funny way of injecting the power, because the POE switch I bought for them (Netgear F@510P) won't power them, though if I use the Polycom-supplied AC adapter and ethernet power

T1 cable for Digium T1/E1 Cards
Is there any technical difference between a T1 cable and a cat5e patch cable as far as using them with Digium T1/E1 cards? Can PRI circuits terminating at a smart jack connect successfully to Digium cards using straight through CAT5e cables? If so, are they using all of the pins in the cable? Thanks in advance

Pinouts for T1/E1 crossover cable WAS "RE: what cable to connect a legacy PBX to a TE410P ?"
At Sangoma we do quite a lot of back-to back T1 and E1 connections. T1 is not a very fussy connection, as the baud rate is only about 750 kbps. In our experience, for error free communications you can use the following rules of thumb: Up to 50 ft: Flat patch cable Up to 500 ft: Ordinary twisted telephone cable Cat 5 may be overkill unless you are going hundreds of feet. Has anyone connected to 7960 with console cable for setup?
I have a Cisco 7960 phone. I cannot seem to use the settings button to get into the phone to change the TFTP server. I've set up a DHCP Server, TFTP Server with the same address, and the phone requests the address of 0.0.0.0, the server offers the address of 192.168.2.2, but the phone seems not to take it. I have no action on the TFTP side. So, since I can't seem to server the phone

Polycom power over ethernet (PoE) cables for 500/501, 600/601 and 650 sets
Hi, folks: I just took delivery of new PoE cables (PN 2200-11077-002) for our Polycom phones here in the office. I have the following to report, for the erudition of existing Polycom users and those considering purchasing Polycom sets from the set of models noted in the subject: 1. The cables do indeed work (hooray). 2. The cable has a module on it about a third of the way from a female end.

I for one think it is a great idea to buy a book with hard earned money and wait a few days to a week just to get an answer to a question that is freely available on the internet immediately. Hard pressed to think of anything in the "book" that is not on with wiki with more up to date and useful information. -----Original Message----- From: Alexander Lopez

Can anyone give me some ideas?
I've got a big UPS from an italian manufacturer MSC elettronica which should be megatec protocol based. They distribute it with Upsilon2000, developed by Megatec, and with a cable listed on the megatec site: http://www.megatec.com.tw/FAQ.htm How do I know the M2505 cable is the one that should be used on my UPS instead of M2502 cable? UPS that use both these cables are TRUE RS232 UPS
