Shielding of T1/E1 cables WAS RE: Pinouts for T1/E1 crossover cable WAS "RE: what cable to connect a legacy PBX to a TE410P ?"
I was once told by a lineman that the cables they use didn't have that many twists in them because it wasn't needed, and that the extra twists would effectively use more cable and thus cost and weigh more than triple what they do now. He told me that with the number of twists in the Cat 5 cable it would cancel out any interference,...

Pinouts for T1/E1 crossover cable WAS "RE: what cable to connect a legacy PBX to a TE410P ?"
Can't anyone stop self-promotion and tell the poor guy what he needs. A T1/E1 X-over cable using an RJ-45 (8-cond.) is pinned out as follows: 1 - 4 2 - 5 3 - NU 4 - 1 5 - 2 6 - NU 7 - NU 8 - NU NU = Not Used I have not in my experience seen any problems with using a Good Quality Cat5 vs. Cat 3 (telco standard) cable for X-connects. YMMV, but you should be fine. As far as the shieldi...

Polycom 501 power over ethernet
...ecause they were "powered over ethernet." Silly me. Polycom must have some odd voltage or funny way of injecting the power, because the POE switch I bought for them (Netgear F@510P) won't power them, though if I use the Polycom-supplied AC adapter and ethernet power injector cable, they work with the switch in either its powered or unpowered ports. Anyhow, I hadn't seen any mention of how people power these phones, as I had planned on centralizing phone power on a UPS to supply my Asterisk server and POE switch. Now the question is: Can the Polycom AC-powered i...

T1 cable for Digium T1/E1 Cards
Is there any technical difference between a T1 cable and a cat5e patch cable as far as using them with Digium T1/E1 cards? Can PRI circuits terminating at a smart jack connect successfully to Digium cards using straight through CAT5e cables? If so, are they using all of the pins in the cable? Thanks in advance

SmartUPS-600 problem with 940-0024C cable
Hey guys, I built my own 940-0024C cable as described here: http://www.networkupstools.org/cables/940-0024C.jpg My problem is that I can't receive anything. Sending (e.g. through minicom or my own application) works fine. Nut itself is not able to detect My UPS or anything else. <snip> [myups] driver = apcsmart port = /dev...

Re: Shielding of T1/E1 cables WAS RE: PinoutsforT1/E1 crossover
...; Close. 10/100mbps Ethernet uses wires 1,2,3,6 but that is pair 2 & 3. > Pair > one is the pair up the dead center (pins 4&5), pair 2 is pins 1&2, pair 3 > is > 3&6 and pair 4 is 7&8. A T1 uses pairs 1&2, which is why you can't use a > regular crossover cable for a T1 crossover, but you can use a regular > ethernet patch cable as a T1 patch cable. Correct. I mixed up "pair 1" with "the pair of wires connected to pins 1 and 2." T1 uses "Pair 1" and "Pair 2," which was what I was trying to say and what you *d...

Pinouts for T1/E1 crossover cable WAS "RE: what cable to connect a legacy PBX to a TE410P ?"
At Sangoma we do quite a lot of back-to back T1 and E1 connections. T1 is not a very fussy connection, as the baud rate is only about 750 kbps. In our experience, for error free communications you can use the following rules of thumb: Up to 50 ft: Flat patch cable Up to 500 ft: Ordinary twisted telephone cable Cat 5 may be overkill unless you are going hundreds of feet. MGE Ellipse USB cable config ?
...i wanna use this UPS for my mac trough USB. According to the online documentation this UPS has a "new communications port on the Pulsar ellipse models incorporates USB and Serial modes". However since this thing is 2nd hand from a now defunct internet company, apparently the USB cable was lost before I bought it. I have been scouring the Internet for several days now, but I can't even find where to buy an official cable (and i suspect it's probably expensive) and I cannot for the life of me find a schematic or something that describes what kind of cable this is e...

Has anyone connected to 7960 with console cable for setup?
...ne requests the address of 0.0.0.0, the server offers the address of 192.168.2.2, but the phone seems not to take it. I have no action on the TFTP side. So, since I can't seem to server the phone anything by TFTP, and I can't use the settings button, then I thought I might make a console cable (see below). I tried to use hyperTerminal, but got no response from the phone. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Randy I found a link to make a Cisco Console Cable for RJ-45. http://www.hardwarebook.net/cable/serial/ciscoconsole9.html DB9F RJ45 Receive Data 2 3 Transmit Data 3 6 D...

Polycom power over ethernet (PoE) cables for 500/501, 600/601 and 650 sets
Hi, folks: I just took delivery of new PoE cables (PN 2200-11077-002) for our Polycom phones here in the office. I have the following to report, for the erudition of existing Polycom users and those considering purchasing Polycom sets from the set of models noted in the subject: 1. The cables do indeed work (hooray). 2. The cable has a module...

Timing cable usage necessity
...g slips counter. I think it's appearing because I'm getting a primary timing source on span 1 - first port on TE420. But TE220 doesn't use it's span 5 for timing source, because it has priority 3, so it could be a sync problem. Am I wrong? I'm started to think about timing cable for syncing timing on first card and second. Should I use it? It's a problem to bought cable in our city (Russia,Moscow). All resellers sell only cards. Could I use floppy or IDE cable to interconnect cards? As I see in picture of cable, it's a direct 16 pin cable. Does anybody know...

Trouble connecting to apc smart 1500 via serial cable
...an APC Smart 1500. The UPS has three machines connected to it, in a peculiar way: one windows machine is connected via USB. The second windows machine is using an agent to monitor messages from the first windows machine. Then, I have a GNU/Linux Debian etch machine connected to the ups via serial cable. The cable is not grey, it is black, which AFAIK is one of those smart cables. Can anyone give me some ideas?
I've got a big UPS from an italian manufacturer MSC elettronica which should be megatec protocol based. They distribute it with Upsilon2000, developed by Megatec, and with a cable listed on the megatec site: http://www.megatec.com.tw/FAQ.htm How do I know the M2505 cable is the one that should be used on my UPS instead of M2502 cable?
