Printer queue problem (LPRng 3.4.2, Samba 1.9.18p4, Solaris 2.5.1/2.6)
I've been having a problem with Win95 clients watching a printer queue on the Samba server (called labserv2). labserv2 is a Solaris 2.5.1 machine running samba 1.9.18p4. The printing system is LPRng 3.4.2. A user can watch the printer queue from a Win95 client machine. However, when the printer queue gets backed up (usually about 12 jobs), the queue window locks. Lack of support of Stored Procedures is a Show Stopper
...nable to use ORM. In fact, if we were to be able to consider a Store Procedure results set as a View, we can easily analyze the view (or DataSet) returned as a first step in creating/updating the objects and their classes. As to ActiveRecord, and ActiveRecord is not a proper representation of a Busines Object. I think the patten is simplistic and although useful, it is not sufficient. In my opinion we should have Busines Object Collections and Business Objects. To create a Business Object Collection we sould need to interate through the ActiveRecords. I''d appreciate any comments, ple...

#10615 : inflection bug that affects classify method
Have a look: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/10615 This is actually a singularize method bug: >> "Business".singularize => "Busines" seems that classify uses singularize internally. Rick resolved it as invalid but I cannot understand why. Rick, could you shed some light on your decision? [PLUGIN] ArPaginator - Allows you to easily paginate over any existing AR queries.
...ons => "company_id=#{@company.id} AND status=''complete''", :order => "created_at DESC" that''s obviously not DRY. You''ll have to update your paginate call if the logic of complete_videos changes, and on top of that you''re putting busines logic in the controller anyway. ArPaginator solves this problem by letting you paginate over any query. Using it, the new pagination code would be paginator = ArPaginator.new(:model => :video, :controller => :videos) @video_pages, @videos = paginator.paginate(:page => params[:page]) { @c...

MS Office 2000 Small Business instalation problem
...n I get an error message, that could be roughly translated as: "Windows system Installer in this system has been upgraded. You have to restart system to finish this upgrade (actualization? - D.W.). After reboot, please start installer again to cotninue instalation of MS Office 2000 Small Busines." This is constant behavior. Restarting to Windows and then Windows doesn't help. Restarting Linux doesn't help. Praying doesn't help. :)) Sorry that I ask here, but I don't know how to translate this message that I could look for it with google. I would be grateful for...

Dovecot Usage Poll
Hi all, I'm trying to get a feel for how many sites are using Dovecot and the size of the installation. Jonathan's query about big sites spurred my curiousity. I'd like to take an informal poll and will post results to the list. I'm interested in hearing from those of you who are using dovecot in a real-life/production type environment (not just testing). Please email me

Applicationwide BusinessObject/Hash
Hello, I''m a total newbie, so please forgive my ignorance. I am trying to port an application from java to ruby. In order to do that, I need to put the object containing all the business logic into something like application scope. The nicest solution would be just to have an application wide hash, where I can put all kinds in of objects. Where and how would I instantiate such an object? Would I do that in the environment.rb? Greetings Michael Kastner

Store/product stock design question
Hi all, I''m having trouble figuring out how to handle stock levels in a new store I''m building. When products are entered into the admin of the store, they have a stock number associated with them. What I''m not sure about, is how I go about maintaining this stock level. Take this scenario: 1. User A adds an item to their cart, and I check that it''s in stock -
