Zone Scalability
...re
conteplating a larger and more complex firewall configuration that may
include as many as twelve zones with trying to cram as many as 8+
interfaces into a single machine. Are there any draw backs to this
amount of zones and interfaces into a single shorewall configuration?
Thanks!

OpenVPN and DNAT
Hello Tom and all,
Quick question: Is it possible to operate an OpenVPN server from behind
a firewall?
Is it as simple as setting it up and placing:
DNAT net loc:192.168.10.20 udp 5000 - ipaddress

"throwing out the old": does Rails really not support...
Frankly I''m losing tolerance for the MS "stack." And I''m intrigued by
Rails. But in my outfit I''m not only the web person, but also the
application person and the DBA. So when I read that Rails doesn''t want
to handle things like "compound keys" I blew right by those claims,
thinking, "no way."
But before I go deeper, I

Why is rails using DB objects that don''t exist?
I admit it--I''m newb right now. But only to rails, ruby and friends.
I''m walking through a "recipe" tutorial but have been stuck for hours;
it''s time to ask for help. On Windows I''ve got the latest ruby, rails,
and webrick; I''ve got the Oracle OCI "thing" to talk to our Oracle 10g
database, I''ve got Slick Edit and a

H.323 Help
...all 1.4.9 instance running on box with a
2.4.20 kernel.
I can not receive H.323 video. From the FAQ I''ve read that there is an
unsupported H.323 connection tracking module that is no longer
maintained. What options are there to make H.323 work with a IPTables
based firewall?

Samba versions require specific Kerberos version?
My SuSE ES 10 SP1 (32bit) and SP2 (64bit) servers have (from the
opensuse repositories) Samba 3.2.4, with the MIT Kerberos provided in
the SLES distribution. In other words, my Samba is a little "ahead"
of the Kerberos distribution.
Is this a problem?
I ask because the winbindd log on the 64bit machine is loaded with KDC
name resolution failures (the kdc is provided by our campus

To make winbindd upset and unresponsive (3.2.6)
This simple and often-suggested command to test Samba:
getent passwd
reproducibly upsets winbindd on my SLES 10 SP1 machine. The command
does often return many results from our campus ADS. But after it
completes -- or if the command pauses for quite some time after
showing local users -- Samba is troubled. In five tests this
afternoon, after getent passwd,
wbinfo --ping
fails every time

Smtp redirect
Hi list,
I have the following problem:
my boss and some other people on my lan want to use their ISP smtp to
send mail when they connect from work lan, but, of course, their ISP
smtp don''t allow relay when they aren''t at home.
You can image my networks so:

eth1 local1 10.88.11.0/24

The future of Shorewall
As most of you already know, I have decided to terminate my involvement with
the Shorewall project. Many of you have written to me expressing concern
about the future of Shorewall and some of you have offered to help in
various ways.
I''m sending this post to assure you that Shorewall is not going away and
that capable people are commited to ensuring that Shorewall continues.

OpenSSH upgrade 4.1p to 5.1p brings ssh_exchange_identification trouble
I hurt myself in an upgrade. All was working well until a new requirement
made sshd.config's MATCH ADDRESS clause essential. I'm hoping someone will
recognize how these facts correlate with changes made in the openssh
software.
Facts:
* SUSE Linux ES 10 SP2 x64
* Old openssh was 4.1p (from 2005)]
* New openssh is 5.1p, installed using SLES's software management tools
* No other

File sharing is ok, but new ADS user validation is not ok
We have Samba 3.2.4 on two SLES 10 (one is SP1, the other SP2 64bit)
machines. Both are member servers in our ADS, which was over the past
month given some additional DCs, new IPs for all DCs, and upgraded to
Windows 2008 (from win2003). The krb5.conf and nsswitch.conf files on
the two machines are identical; the smb.conf files are *nearly*
identical in their common section; the filewall rules
