batch mode in linux
...(e.g., summary(fm)) produce
output in interactive mode, so I don't understand why no output appears
in batch mode. Any error in the input file produces an error message on
the console. But when I correct the error, there is still no visible
output. Any help would be appreciated.

map("state" ...) Is the USA cracking up?

sinusoidal. An example of a command producing this effect is the following:
map("state", regions=names48, projection="albers", par=c(36, 53),
fill=T, col=rgb(red, green, blue, maxColorValue=255))
Suggests for filling the cracks would be very welcome.

add 'auto' or 'ext3' to the /etc/fstab file. Is this the missing link? Is
there anything else I should do in order to get the patch to work? Any help

separate maps in one figure
...haven't figured out how to make space in a figure for the 3 maps. I'm
aware of the grid package but suspect that its strictly rectangular
layout will leave too much empty space in the figure.
Suggestions for positioning three maps in one figure would be very welcome.

regression model selection
Hello,
Newbie here, be gentle ;)
I have a reference book that discusses regression model selection using
several methods - what they call 'Forward Model Selection' i.e. add one
variable at a time and examining R, R^2, Mallow's C-p value, etc., 'Backward
Model Selection' i.e. starting out with all the variables included and then
remove them one at a time, and examining for

gday R gurus,
I have a multivariate regression for which I want to constrain the
coefficients to be > 0. Is this possible?
I've check the doco and searched CRAN but can't find anything.

Need to "net use \\someserver\someshare" to increase speed?
All,
We've been testing to determine why SAMBA access to UNIX clearcase VOBs
became slow when we upgraded from 2.2.8a to 3.0.14 (and now 3.0.24). I
cannot say we've found 'anything new' but we have found the following
behavior. Any help understanding why a WinXP and Win2K client would
need the shares to VOB storage mapped to speed processing would be
appreciated (note that it
