Free Redhat Linux (rhel) version 7.2
I read that Redhat was offering their Linux free,
and downloaded the ISO, though I haven't run it.
What do CentOS users think of Redhat's offer?
The registration with Redhat seemed very bureaucratic to me,
and I'm not sure if I have carried it out properly.
Also, I didn't see if it was possible to get updates,
either with dnf or some other way.
I've been (and am) very

the large dataset problem
Dear useRs,
I recently began a job at a very large and heavily bureaucratic organization. We're setting up a research office and statistical analysis will form the backbone of our work. We'll be working with large datasets such the SIPP as well as our own administrative data.
Due to the bureaucracy, it will take some time to get the licenses for proprietary software like Stata. Right

Distinctive Ring on SPA941
Does anyone know how to set the distinctive ring on the Linksys SPA941?
I want to be able to dial one extension and have the phone ring with a
certain tone and then dial another and have the phone ring with a
different tone. I have tried the following
-------------------------------------------------------------------
exten => 802,1,SIPAddHeader(call_info=Classic-4)

can Samba 2.2 join Windows 2003 R2 DC?
I have a Solaris 8 box with very old Samba 2.2.8a. It would be very convenient to join a Windows Domain with a 2003 R2 DC. (saving about 1 month of bureaucratic busy work - replacing the server) I've followed the docs on joining a Windows 2K AD, but no success:
[root at box samba-2.2.8a]# smbpasswd -D 2 -j FOO -U me
added interface ip=10.1.4.31 bcast=10.1.5.255 nmask=255.255.254.0

patch for triggering SFTP process_write
Hi Damien!
I produced a little patch to the package ver. 4.6p1 for linux.
My company, for many bureaucratic reasons, was interested in triggering
each uploaded file to the server using sftp subsystem.
In Internet and in ML, all folks solve the problem using a script
joining sftp command section to ssh command section, but unfortunately
isn't my case.
The patch consist in a

non-central t : R v.Splus
Hi
For bureaucratic reasons beyond my control I need to rewrite an R function
(for producing operating characteristic curves) as an Splus function (
version 6 , windows XP ).
The R function makes extensive use of the fact that the student's t
distribution function pt() has a non-centrality parameter built in ...
sadly that parameter is not present in the Splus pt() function .

[PATCH] ifgpxe.c32
ifgpxe.c32 is a com32 module that will run one command if gPXE extensions are available, and a different command if not.
At VMware, we use this module to chain-load gpxelinux.0 from pxelinux.0. Both of those binaries use exactly the same configuration file, and this module allows us to differentiate between the two cases and break the infinite chain-loading loop that might result. Typical usage:

Request for Proposal: On-Site Rails Training
Don''t let the bureaucratic aspects of this RFP bother you: we''re eager
to find and work with a good trainer to get our developers up to speed
on RoR, and there''s a possibility of a paid Rails-evangelist gig as
well. If that sounds like something you would be interested in and
qualified for, I hope you will get in touch with us and submit a
proposal. --Chris

What is the most cost effective hardware for R?
Has anyone got any advice about what hardware to buy to run lots of R
analysis? Links to studies or other documents would be great as would
be personal opinion.
We are not currently certain what analysis we shall be running, but our
first implementation uses the functions lme and gls from the library
nlme. To do one data point currently takes 1.5 seconds on our 3 year
old sunfire box, and

So who do you believe is driving RH corporate? Why are they expending the effort to do this?
The answer is clear to me: general security principles. By the time EL8 comes out, we?ll have had ~3 years of warnings under EL7 that weak

PS I don't like though policies invented by bureaucrats having no
technical knowledge serving only to cover their backsides, like in
National Laboratories they require one to change password every 6 Months,
and password should never be anything you used in the past. This doesn't
serve security, and is counter-productive. This policy for me indicates...

I think it's an excellent opportunity for developers, and for the simply
curious.
