Asterisk International Carrier Buildout - Create our own International networks for BEST pricing!
...es were better than mine!!!
To top that off, I am colocated within the Level3
datacenter, he has no computers, and gets better
rates.
So, Mr. Grammer, (read his below post to
Asterisk-biz), hit the nail right on the head, when
he posted that we should start our OWN Asterisk
International Carriers buildout as we can CREATE
better pricing for OURSELVES, as opposed to all the
others....
Please provide insights, directions as to EXACTLY how
we can attain, using Asterisk, our own International
Networks. I am interested in placing Asterisk boxes
in South America, India, and other places.
When the call...

New Dovecot server buildout review
Hello Everyone,
I have the opportunity to do a new mail system build out for about 20k
email boxes over a few hundred domains. I already run a system like
this, but this time I can do it right :).
My thought on storage is to have a 12 drive JBOD system attached via SAS
to a 3ware 9690SA raid controller. Drives would be RAID'd (10 or 5) to
appear as one for message storage. Dovecot would run

[LLVMdev] Minimum Python Version
...e older ones, and if everything else fails you can

I'd like to echo how simple this is. Compiling Python from source is
literally configure + make. There are also tools like buildout [1] that
make it extremely easy to install multiple Python versions side-by-side.
And, since Python is prolific, you can bet that there exists an apt, yum,
etc package somewhere. I think simple instructions pointing to these would
be sufficient to not upset users of machines "stuck" on Py...

Pointers/suggestions?
...rver needs lots of PCI slots; but most
CPU motherboards with 5 slots are discontinued according to the
manufacturer links I follow from Tom's Hardware... Or should I consider
multiple servers?
I have plenty of experience with IP networking (since '87) in all size
networks. My first IP net buildout ('87-'92) was a 300 router network,
and they got bigger when I moved to the US, so this part is the least of
my issues.
Of course, I'm probably forgetting something; so I'm interested in other
gotchas...
Thanks for any pointers,
Pierre

Configuration Compliance auditing for many CentOS 5.x boxes
Hi CentOS experts,*
Short Version*
I would like to produce a weekly report in HTML for each CentOS 5.x
server we have indicating configuration compliance with some industry
benchmark. I am looking for a tool or tools to implement this, I am
happy to use 3rd party proprietary stuff if necessary.
*
Long(er) Version*
Current Situation.. I have a client with many (200x) CentOS 5.x
servers

recommended way to install source rpms?
yes, i've read the online docs and followed a link or two to find a
simple way to do this, such as:
http://sourceware.org/systemtap/wiki/SystemTapOnCentOS
so, these days, is that the canonical way to download source rpms?
now, note that i'm not arguing about whether this is a good idea. in
my circumstances, i want the ability to just "yum download" source
rpms so that i can

Atcom IP-4B ISDN IP PBX?
Hello
For customers who need a small IP PBX to handle up to four ISDN lines
(in France, so I guess that means EuroISDN) instead of a PC + Asterisk
and an ISDN gateway box, has someone already played with the Atcom
IP-4B?

syslinux vs grub
Okay, I'm going to ask the gajillion-dollar question...
I've been doing syslinux for 11 years now. From a very limited scope it
has since grown and is now a very advanced boot loader.
Unfortunately, it's not clear to me anymore to what extent the work I'm
doing is useful.
I personally dislike grub because of its monolithic design, and because
the grub people have

Wi-SIP vs. SIP-DECT
Anybody care to muse on Wi-SIP vs. SIP-DECT?
My limited research indicates that none of the WiSip phones will ever be
able to match the performance of DECT phones. Maybe I'm wrong but a
Wi-SIP phone seems like a DIESEL sports car. There is nothing wrong
with the technology, but it seems like a shoe-horned fit into the
requirements of a wireless endpoint. DECT uses a wireless radio layer
