Seagate Constellation vs. Hitachi Ultrastar
Happy Friday, List!
I''m spec''ing out a Thumper-esque solution and having trouble finding my favorite Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB drives at a reasonable post-flood price. The Seagate Constellations seem pretty reasonable given the market circumstances but I don''t have any experience with them. Anybody using these in their ZFS systems and have you had good luck?
Also, if

Seen flag bug in Mozilla Thunderbird - BugID 541337 - "old messages are marked as unread"
Just wanted to share the bad news:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=541337
It seems that Dovecot is really showing the Mozilla Thunderbird team how
to read and use an RFC ;-)

Using same ZFS under different kernel versions
I build two zfs filesystems using b29 (from brandz).
I then re-installed solaris express b28, preserving the zfs filesystems.
When I tried to "zpool import" my zfs filesystems I got a kernel panic:

[PATCH] Password expiry with Privsep and PAM
Hi All.
Attached is a patch that implements password expiry with PAM and
privsep. It works by passing a descriptor to the tty to the monitor,
which sets up a child with that tty as stdin/stdout/stderr, then runs
chauthtok(). No setuid helpers.
I used some parts of Michael Steffens' patch (bugid #423) to make it
work on HP-UX.
It's still rough but it works. Tested on Solaris 8 and HPUX 11 (trusted
configuration).

by others, though the specific symptoms seem to have changed a bit.
(eg http://www.castaglia.org/proftpd/doc/devel-guide/src/modules/mod_pam.c.html
contains a reference to this problem -- the first instance of PAM_TTY)
I wasn't able to find any other reference to Sun bugid 4250887 that
was mentioned in the comment, and an empty string worked for me as
well.
In any case, the following change appears to address the problem:

Correlate bugzilla ID with IDs listed in RPM change logs
Hello,
Is there any way to correlate bugzilla bug IDs with the ones that are
listed in RPM changelogs? For example, I'm pretty sure that bugzilla 14106
<https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14106> is the same bug as
referenced in this RedHat changelog entry

Caching authentication request
...t from time to time, and usually on rush hour, Squid
runs out of authentication process and at the same time, winbind have
also no more authentication process free (winbindd: Exceeding 200
client connections, no idle connection found).
I've seen a bug opened for this problem but no answer yet (bugid : 3204)
I've also asked squid users about that, but nothing relevant for now.
Do you know if there is anyway of "caching" authentication request
with winbind or samba ?
I didn't find anything yet.
Thanks

CentOS Bug Reporting Policy
I'm a little confused about what you are supposed to do when you
discover a bug with CentOS (and by implication RHEL).
Is there some policy as to what to do and where to report the bug?
It doesn't seem appropriate to report it to http://bugs.centos.org
because CentOS is kept in-sync with the upstream, so bugs will never get
fixed in CentOS, only in the upstream distribution.

cd /tank

There is a second call to do_pam_setcred() in

The comment mentions initgroups(3C) wiping out supplementary groups
which only applies in the Linux world if the LinuxPAM pam_group(8)

how do do it without modifying sshd itself.
Onto the changes:
* Supports PrivSep. Postinstall will create privsep user, group and
directory if necessary. NOTE: 3.3p1 has a problem with PrivSep on AIX
(bugids 270 & 283). Until this is fixed I recommend you add
"UsePrivilegeSeparation no" to $srcdir/sshd_config before creating
packages and to any systems you upgrade.
* Supports config.local settings (based on Solaris buildpkg).
