btx/pxeboot problem
latest pxeboot (7.1):
mother-board NIC/LOM CPU
------------- ------- ---
Intel SWV25 em xeon works fine
SUN X2200 bge amd works fine
DELL PE 2950 bce xeon failes 95% of the times
hangs or goes into btx dump regs. mode :-)
Intel SE7320VP21 msk xeon failes 50% of the times - hangs
pxeboot with btx.S 1.45 2008/02/27 23:35:39, works fine.
so it seems that changes since 1.45 have fixed it for some, but it
brakes for others :-). I can help testing, but btx is way out of
my league.

One more clue, maybe...
The stack dump message is white text on black background. Right
above the stack dump message, still in yellow-on-blue from the PXELINUX
settings, is the text:
Building the boot loader arguments
Relocating the loader and the BTX
Starting the BTX loader
<change to white-on-black>
BTX loader 1.00 BTX version is 1.01
<stack dump>
Would that business of "arguments... Relocating... Starting..." tell
us anything?
BTW, you should be able to recreate this with the pxeboot.0 that I
sent you-- if...

7.1 new install halts on BTX error
I upgraded my 7.0 system to 7.1-RELEASE with freebsd-update only to find
that it no longer boots correctly, instead crashing with a BTX backtrace.
If I break to the loader prompt and use 'ls /boot', I also get a
backtrace.
A new install of 7.1 on this hardware using a separate SCSI card and drive
array also leads to a BTX backtrace. I have copied this below as the first
(most repeatable) error and also included the oth...

Apologies for my mailer...

Any suggestions what might be the problem? All I can find about "BTX

out of a sudden on machine which has been running fine before.
Any hints are highly appreciated.
Thanks,

Problem with /boot/loader
Hello,
I have a problem with loader. I recently upgraded from 6_rel to 7_rel.
Now when I install world there is a problem booting.
Here is what I do:
cd /usr/src
make buildworld
make buildkernel KERNCONF=BLACK
make installkernel KERNCONF=BLACK
At this point I can reboot and all is good. After boot I install the new world:
cd /usr/src
mergemaster -p
reboot into single user mode
cd /usr/src

FreeBSD, BTX halted
Hi,
I try to full virtualize FreeBSD, and it does not boot.
I made a VNC screenshot, attached, and also made a
joint screenshot. I know about the bug, I am going to enforce (+1) that I also
encounter the bug.
Would you know any workaround?

Closer with pxeboot, but not all there...
...stack dump out of the FreeBSD loader.
I have seen this behavior from pxeboot before. Maybe once out of
every fifty or so runs of pxeboot, I would see an error message like the one
below, but it was both rare and inconsistent. Now I am getting this message
every time pxelinux invokes pxeboot:

bootstrapping vinum root
...disklabel -Brw auto ad2s1; disklabel -Brw auto ad3s1
- create ad[23]s1d for root, 128M+265s in size, type vinum
- start vinum and create mroot mirror volume
- dump'n'restored root partition there
- tune new fstab and /boot/loader.conf according to Joerg's comments.
Alas, all I have is BTX registers dump.
I did also check that if I create ad2s1a instead of vinum partition, I can boot
from that prepaired disk.
BTW, Joerg did promised a bit of documentation for vinum roots, but I failed
to find it...
Any suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance.
Sincerely,

More info about split-second message. RE: run FreeBSD "pxeboot" from pxelinux.0?
...rted-- pxeboot gets out just over 2 lines of text
before the reboot occurs.
So it's not a "ready" message.
The text in question is (without *'s):
******************************************
PXE Loader 1.00
Building the boot loader arguments
Relocating the loader and the BTX
*******************************************
and it's gone.
BTW, I altered the display colors (yellow on blue) and was able to
read the split-second message, although I had to re-run a couple of times.
(nice feature, those colors.)
I hope that helps...

pfSense HVM
Hi Everyone,
Does anybody have any experience using pfSense on Xen? I would most
probably have to use HVM...
My idea would be to use PCI-Passthrough to the pfsense DomU, and only
make the Dom0 accessable via the pfsense firewall
Thanks

isolinux to create a bootable freebsd disk?
...monowall but uses
freebsd. They have a live cd (installer as well) that will not boot
properly using an external usb 2.0 drive. Fedora Core 4 and Debian boot
just fine using this drive. I got to thinking and wondered if it might be
possible to boot pfSense's cd using isolinux instead of BTX.
thoughts?
