2 Probs: Mangled Case & Briefcase
Hi,
I have a Samba 2.2.3a-6 server running on top of Debian Woody. There
are two things I still have problems with.
Number one is case mangling. I have set "mangle case = Yes" in [global]
and left all other options related to case at their default and it works
to some extent. But for example I cannot rename "whatever.txt" to
"WhatEver.txt". The way it works is

Windows 95 Briefcase
Hello everyone...
I have been using Samba v1.9.16p11 for a little while now and I just
noticed that when I create a Windows 95 Briefcase on a Samba drive it
appears as a folder (directory). This also happens when I move a
briefcase created on a local drive to the network. I admit a small degree
of ignorance here because I do not have an NT box to test the setup with
so I do not know if this is

Creating a Briefcase on Samba shares?
Is there a way to successfully create a working Briefcase on Samba shares?
When I create one in a Samba share, it has a regular folder icon with a
desktop.ini file in it. Openning it reveals a plain folder rather than the
usual Briefcase applet. When I create one on a Windows NT network share it
works fine, but all our big filesystems are unix-based Samba shares rather
than NT shares.

m$ briefcase / access question
Hi all,
I've just realised Samba doesn't appear to support M$ Briefcases, which is a
bit of a shame as I've just designed an Access Database system that needs to
replicate between Servers on five sites, and we've just converted the
client's NT Servers to Linux Samba Servers.... (now, finally, things work
properly!!)
So, presuming there is a God up there som...

[POSIX ACLs] Only ACE rules from Samba Primary Group are applied.
Hi,
I've a samba 3.0.24 server running in a debian "alike" OS with a
(Open)LDAP backend and I'm having the following problem:
I have LDAP users that belong to more than one (POSIX) group. For
instance, I have a user2 that belongs to group "users" and "grupo2" and
I have a share with the following ACL settings:

Dear All,

lib/util_str.c:safe_strcpy ERROR: string overflow by 1
Hi,
I've seeing the following error messages recorded in logwatch against
samba in two FC6 XA-64 systems with samba 3.0.24-7.
lib/util_str.c:safe_strcpy_fn(603) ERROR: string overflow by 1 (24 - 23) in safe_strcpy
The main share in use on the first machine is via the guest account with Vista and XP clients, the other has more conventional shares with the Vista PC's as domain members

This does not sound like a surprise to me. ;-)

LDAP PDC problems
Hello there,
I'm running 2.2.5 compiled with ACL and LDAP auth. The PDC used to work
flawlessly using smbpasswd but I want to dual boot the workstations to
Linux so I need a centralized LDAP authentication repository.
Once I reinstalled the LDAPized samba I started populating the directory
with the "well-known" identities using the smbldap tools (bear in mind

logon home = \\%N\%U
logon script = "logon.cmd"
valid users = %S

The OGG Extension...
Me again... :)
Despite all of the comments made in favor of the .OGG extension, I'm still going to have to side with the "different extension" camp. There are a number of reasons for this...
First off... from where I'm sitting, it doesn't matter how much of a grey-area you get into, I can't think of a single scenario where you wouldn't be able to say that it was

root != admin domain user?

Samba has been running as PDC for some months in a row w/o no issues so
far.
Users and machines were created and added to the domain correctly...
Now I'm facing the following problem... I hope it's easy to solve...
Although machines have been added to the domain using the root user, and
it's mapped to Administrator in /etc/samba/smbusers, when a situation

serverbased profiles doesnt load at winxp login
hi, ive installed samba 3 on a debian 4, the samba server should act like a
pdc.
at the moment it work that user can login on my clients (all windows xp pro
sp2), the homedrive is mapped corretly, the only thing that doesn't work, is
that the serverbased profile is saved automatically on the server, so that
the user can downlad the profile at login.
here is my smb.conf:
