OT: programming language for morons (newbie friendly language in Open Source world)
Hi folks
I have more than 12 years experience with UNIX system administration,
but I am too stupid for programming. My only programming experience is
shell scripting. I tried to learn Java, but don't understand it
because it is too complicated for my limited brainpower.
What programming language should I learn?
A friend said that C-Sharp (Mono) is very simple. Is this true?
cheers Sven

Edge rails and routes
I have a route that works under 1.1.2 but does not work under edge
rails.
route.wishlist ''wishlist/:id'',
:action => ''show_wishlist'',
:id => nil,
:requirements => {:id => /\d*/}
This worked great without an :id, but under edge rails when I call
wishlist_url with no parameters I get:
"Exception: can''t convert nil into

Another good thing is posting to this mailinglist with a subscribed
e-mail address. It prevents brainpower being wasted on "Why do I recieve
those discussion e-mails out of order?" (Answer: Piranna is not (yet)
subscribed and non-subscriber postings wait for manual aproval. )

OpenSSH 2.1.0 won't build without rc5 and idea
...openssl/idea.h. I built my installation of openssl without those
algorithms in order to avoid commercial licensing issues.
The following diff band-aids the problem, but I think it's down-stream
of the proper fix. This configure stuff is cool when it works, but
way too complex for my limited brainpower when it doesn't. :-)
thumper% rcsdiff -r1.1 -r1.2 config.h

Only one user can play shared OGGs
Hi Everybody,
I was wondering if a few of you might be able to send some brainpower my way regarding a problem I've been having.
My Samba 3 server serves OGG files to serveral Windows XP clients, all on the same subnet. As "user_a", I've been ripping OGGs on one windows box and saving them to /home/user_a/ on the server. I can then copy these files from user_a...

Just what I needed, thanks! :-D I have not seen any reference to that
on the wiki docs, maybe it would make sense to add a little note about
it?
And regarding to the extra modules (menu.c32 and so), I need to add
them previously by hand, isn't it? Just to be sure...

[LLVMdev] LLVM opportunities with Google Native Client
Google Native Client <http://code.google.com/p/nativeclient> is an
open-source project working to deliver a native-code environment for Web
browsers that is (at least) as safe and portable as JavaScript and other
technologies we take for granted on the Web. Many LLVM developers have
already noticed our recent blog

The amount of actively-maintained software has always matched the available brainpower given over to its maintenance. Therefore, if we are going to add more features, some old things have to be left to die.
I do not mean ?destroyed? in the physical sense. CDE is still there, if you want it. There just hasn?t been any new development on it in many years now, because the people who...

Best practices for httpd & MySQL under Xen w/DRBD & iSCSI?
Hi All,
I apologize in advance if this strays too far from the etiquette on the
Xen userlist, however the amount of help, brainpower and experience I''ve
received from this list with Xen and "peripheral" related issues (i.e.
DRBD) have been worth more than it''s weight on gold and I''m hoping
someone will be kind enough to give me a "best practices" outline of
what I should do and...

But it doesn't matter how pretty Gnome3 is on some other box.

Overview of Ruby 1.9 encoding problem tickets
SUMMARY:
--------
I tried to identify the general and root causes for these problems
with 1.9, by taking into account non-utf encoding, current patches,
comments and ideas. I used ticket #2188 as base for explanations.
This is a long read. I wanted to include all the relevant information
in one place. I also included information about related tickets in LH
and their status. I decided that adding
