I don''t expect there''s enough of us to form a user group, but it might

3-d splinefun
hello,
is it possible to do something like splinefun(x,y), but with a 3rd
dim?
for example, if i have a 2-dim system like:
x<-1:100
y<-rexp(100,1)
func<-splinefun(x,sort(y))
func(n) # returns interpolated value of y (after sorting) given x=n
# i can check this by:
plot(x,sort(y))
lines(spline(x,sort(y)))
Can i do the same thing with an x,y, and z? i have found the akima

perl advice
Hello-
Does anyone have a recommendation on how to call R from perl? I'm using
the IPC::Open2 module, and running R with the --slave and --quiet
options. The problem is that I can't predict how many lines of output I
should try to read for each command-- if any!
The ultimate goal is to use perl to provide a form-driven web interface,
but have R do the underlying calculations.
Thanks

R-beta: ar
I have been trying to get a working version of ar, since I have used it
in several calculations in the test suite for my time series library.
The following limited version (order.max must be specified and other
short comings) works more or less, but the results differ by more than
I would expect from those given by Splus. I have tried several
variations with no success. If anyone can see a reason

creating a grid of function values
I want to create a grid of function values for use in `contour' or
`persp'. The function is the log-likelihood for the gamma. The
sample is stored as vector of length 20 called `Survival'.
A single evaluation of the log-likelihood at, say, scale = 9 and shape
= 10 would be obtained by
sum(dgamma(Survival, scale = 9, shape = 10, log = TRUE))
(This may work only 0.99.0, I'm not

how to convert strings back to values?
Dear All,
It's Eszter from Hungary, a total beginner with R. My problem is the
following:
I have a dataset with binary values as a comma separated textfile. The
samples are in the coloumns and the species are in the rows.
I have to transpose it for the further PCoA analysis. There is no
problem with reading the dataset.
When I transpose the dataset, the original values become
