possible nfs issue
Hi all, we've started receiving complaints from users that seemingly use more quota than they actually have. We noticed that these users have (in some cases many) .nfs files in their mailspool. Some of our admins checked their own dirs, and noticed them there as well. This could of course be unrelated to dovecot (kernel issue, netapp issue) but maybe somehow has an idea about if dovecot could

crashes on 2.0.16
Hey all, I upgraded some servers today from Debian Lenny to Debian Squeeze, and after the upgrade I started getting dovecot crashes. I was on 2.0.13 but got these there as well, and hoped upgrading to 2.0.16 would help. It didn't. Anyone have an idea? reason to switch to 1.1
We've been running 1.1 on about half of our servers for about a week now. Ive mailed before that I was pleasantly surprised by its better use of resources. Here's a graph showing that fact. Server load in the last 10 days. http://uwimages.smugmug.com/photos/286355874_9FNp2-L.png Cor

problem with test56
Hi all, im doing some tests with the test56 release and im seeing some problems with APPEND (may be related to something else, I just see it with APPEND). When I ask someone to move some emails from one mailbox to another, after some messages (seemingly random), the client experiences a 'hang'. When tracing the process what seems to happen is that dovecot doesnt send a final OK after

read-only dovecot-uidlist
Hi all, i just investigated a user complaint and found a read-only dovecot-uidlist. Since dovecot couldnt write it, the process failed. Users can not reach this file, so how this became readonly is beyond me. Must be something in dovecot. Maybe an older bug? Doing a search now for more readonly uidlist files, but that'll take a few hours. Cor

interesting stats pattern
Hey all, im experimenting with dovecot stats service, and graphing the result. My initial results are kind of interesting. Check out this graph showing connected sessions and users: http://grab.by/dReu At first I thought maybe one of our 35 imap servers was having issues sending data, but all individual servers show this patters. Here is a bunch of individual servers: http://grab.by/dReC

index IO patterns
Hey all, we're in the process of checking out alternatives to our index storage. We're currently storing indexes on a NetApp Metrocluster which works fine, but is very expensive. We're planning a few different setups and doing some actual performance tests on them. Does anyone know some of the IO patterns of the indexes? For instance: - mostly random reads or linear reads/writes?

busy loop?
I just noticed that about 25% of our servers have imap processes hanging: 97996 xxxxxx 1 101 0 4096K 2052K CPU3 2 180:54 98.93% imap All with 98-100% cpu load, taking up 1 or more CPUs. dovecot 1.1.2, FreeBSD 6.2. is this caused by the deadlock issue thats fixed in 1.1.4? Cor

1.1 a major improvement
I recently switched one of our 30 imap servers to 1.1RC4 from 1.0.x, and the difference is huge. The load on the server dropped from 5+ to 0.3 or so. This means there is no more io waiting going on. Thats on FreeBSD 6.2. Great work Timo! Cor

permission problems
Hi, ever since i switched a few servers to 1.1RC4 im finding control dirs with the wrong permissions: 80023615 8 drw------- 2 xxxxxxx user 4096 Apr 23 09:46 ./a/an/xxxxxxx/INBOX/.INBOX.Maatschappijen When dovecot then wants to write a file inside, it gets a permission denied. Cor

fallback for proxy?
Is it possible somehow to configure a fallback for a failed proxy? I am using sql based proxying through dovecot, but it would be nice if you can fallback to another host if the proxy destination server is down. High availability and all.. Regards, Cor

2 problems
Hi all, im testing dovecot as a replacement imap server and noticed 2 problems in 0.99.10.5. if you use dovecot/pop on an account who's quota is fully used, dovecot will ungracefully stop. This will only happen when the account is first accessed by dovecot (for instance, when offering IMAP to an existing userbase using dovecot, or when the index files have inadvertently been deleted). +OK

search functionality
Hi all, if I give the following command in test32: A004 UID SEARCH CHARSET ISO-8859-1 ALL TEXT {4} Test The response is: * SEARCH A004 OK Search completed. If I say: A004 UID SEARCH CHARSET ISO-8859-1 ALL FROM {4} Test The response is: * SEARCH 217 350 A004 OK Search completed. The RFC says that 'TEXT' is supposed to result in a list of messages where the search string is in

problem with test69
Hi all, I noticed a problem with test69. I can recreate it with the following steps: - create a folder - copy about 200 emails from INBOX to this folder The copy succeeds, I can see with rawlog that it actually moves the 200 emails around. I can see on the spool that there are 200 emails. This is maildir, with spool over NFS. Now I immediately select the new folder. I now see only a part of the

small dovecot problem
Hi all, just noticed a small problem in test70. If you have an mail in your maildir 'new' directory, and use another method to delete that email (for instance pop it through another pop server), dovecot will continue to report that email as being on the server. So if you had 1 email, delete it through pop, dovecot will continue to say that 1 email is on the server, even if you

feature or bug on delete?
RFC 3501 mentions this: The DELETE command MUST NOT remove inferior hierarchical names. For example, if a mailbox "foo" has an inferior "foo.bar" (assuming "." is the hierarchy delimiter character), removing "foo" MUST NOT remove "foo.bar". It is an error to attempt to delete a name that has inferior hierarchical

mixing 1.2 and 2.0?
Hi all, anyone know if it's safe to mix a 1.2 environment with 2.0 servers? Im planning on adding some 2.0 servers for test purposes, but now im wondering if thats going to mess up index files or other files for users selecting the test server and then switching back to our normal servers.
