Having problems getting RH72 Samba to join a W2K Domain
I actually did it successfully on a test network
(the Win2K is mixed-mode), but when I took the same Samba server
and plugged it into the real network, I could't get
"smbpasswd -j bottlerocket.com" to fly.
Now realize when I did this in a test network, I set up a dummy Win2K DC
for this same domain, same IP address, etc. So I think something has
a conflicting, duplicate entry. I must need to delete a file or two,
just not sure which ones. I did delete the something.tdb file (I ca...

phone as control interface (was 99 bottles of beer)
...ol signals over house wiring)
I use an X10 Firecracker (CM17A) interface
http://www.smarthome.com/1141.html which is a little radio transmitter the
size of a DB9 shell and plugs into a serial port. The software that comes
with it is for Windows and is very lame. However, there is a unix tool

their constraints/user memory/etc. The command line one seems to work real
well for me because the computer is far more cap...

Back-up connection
Some weeks ago, I asked if anyone had set up a backup scheme for a remote
server.
By backup here, I mean an alternative arrangement that can be called upon
if eg the DSL connection to the remote machine fails.
I received one interesting reply:

I have two gsm-modems, one low-speed (that came free of charge with one of
my fixed lines),

Is there any Asterisk controllable thermostat?
I am wondering if there is any such thermostat available which can be
controlled from Asterisk. Like you call your home pbx, dial some extension,
e.g. 333 and it asks to set the temperature, you enter a temperature, and it
sets the thermostat to that temperature. This thermostat will be very
useful, e.g. when you're coming back home after a few days and now its
snowing and you want home to be

ubuntu 12.04 install issues
Hello:
I have a new install of Ubuntu 12.04. I have tried to install R via source,
apt-get, and the deb packages from a cran mirror. Each of these had issues.
I followed the secure apt key install. The apt-get and deb installs each
have the same error. So, let's ignore the source install for now. This is the error:
>> sudo dpkg -i r-base-core_2.15.1-1precise2_i386.deb
