S4 dispatch and S3 "connection" objects
Hello,
I'm trying to get S4 dispatch on S3 "connection" objects.
So I do :
setOldClass( "connection" )
and then :
setGeneric( "bling", function(object) standardGeneric( "bling" ) )
setMethod( "bling", "connection", function(object) cat( "gotcha ",
as.integer(object), "\n" ) )
but I get :
f <- file( "blabla", open = "rb" )
> bling( f )

I need more bling!
...#39;'m
trying to sell (sorry, not on the Internet yet - he saw it at my
house).
His comment: "Looks like it does everything, but also looks pretty
ugly. You''re not going to wow anybody with that". Sitting back and
thinking about it, he''s dead right - it needs some bling to make it
sell itself, rather than have me trying to convince people to use it.
Functionality-wise, it hits every button there is, but it looks like
crap.
Not having a visual design bone in my body, I''m stumped to know how to
proceed. Sure, I''ve looked at the Ajax APIs for Rai...

free from GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap
...h some success I
might add) to make Beryl run without the need for texture_from_pixmap.
No more black window bug from nvidia, no more Xgl, no more AIGLX. Oh
yeah? and its faster than Xgl/AIGLX (nvidia beta performance looks to be
about the same). The code is all thanks to Onestone who is a true bling
hero, and the idea itself originates from the Project Looking Glass
people. Kudos to them and their great work, we hope to incorporate more
of their experience to Beryl?s code base in the form of optimizations
and improvements."
it seems to be still in it's infancy though. Even if it&...

However I assure you, if you work here, we''re gonna have a frickin'' RoR

So uhh, send me your resume so I get the referral $bling$
Or, if you''re into the whole "discussion forum" type thing, I''d be

CentOS 7 + KDE - default keyboard layout?
Hi,
I'm currently fiddling with CentOS 7 and KDE 4.14, and I must say, I'm
pleasantly surprised. This is one of the cleanest implementations of KDE
I've ever seen, and with some tweaking (a lot, in fact) this can be
turned into a highly functional desktop with all the bling and bells and
whistles.
But right now, I have some minor problems to solve. First things first.
My system is installed in French, with a swiss french keyboard
(fr_CH-latin1) as default. This works OK in console mode, but when KDE
launches the first time, the default keyboard is US, and there's...

Uptodate howtos, dependencies, source repos etc.?
Hi.
Given the whole compiz/beryl fork/merge hoolabaloo and various drivers'
development, I find it hard to actually trust any of the information I
find on the web regarding what bits and pieces I need to have to obtain
compiz bling on my desktop. That compiz.org got problems as of right now
also contributes to my motivation for this mail.
1. What source repos do I need to download, build and install to get
funky window animations on a pretty much gnome-free laptop with ATI
r200-class graphics? (Yes, I would very much like t...

SolidWorks 2013 performance problems
Hi,
We're having performance problems with SolidWorks on our shares.
Copying the entire entire solidworks project to local disk and opening
from there takes around 30s, but opening from the share directly takes
minutes.
Apparently solidworks knowledge base has this to say about Samba:

Dennis' proposal would be possible as well
There's basically no overhead in the remote desktop in the current Nomad
implementation
pro's for Nomad :
* improving the remote desktop experience by improving performance and
smoothness, and enabling remotely enjoying the usual bling
* applications won't notice anything
Side-effect of Nomad branch : cleans up the rendering core, and generalises it
to hierarchies of windows, instead of a single level list.
(moves (glx) rendering out of core to plugins side) [~=> like in Compiz++]

OT: Looking for a robust IMAP client
This weekend we had a runaway email endless loop. When it was killed
after 18 hours, my inbox had 135,000 messages in it...there were two
messages that were being endlessly sent and bounced and I'm on the
postmaster alias. Thunderbird was able to do a mass select of one of
the two messages, and deleted 65,000, but after that it locked up. I
ended up firing up Pine to do the final

Ruby Gems and Rails
Hi,
I think this has been discussed previously on the list, so apologies if
I''m covering old ground but I''ve been using puppet to manage a few Rails
applications which have dependencies on quite a few gems, so it''s
getting to be a bit of an onerous task to manage them. It looks like
the command line interface to gems doesn''t really support automated

Rails on a Mac - I''ve seen the light
Well I finally broke down and got me one of those Intel iMacs and a copy
of Textmate. It took me a bit to get use to Textmate but once I learned
some of the shortcuts I was cruising. Mac OS X took very little time to
get used to as I already had a decent *nix background. Up until this
point I had been primarily on Windows.
Some of the productivity highlights I''ve found:
