blastwave.rb patch
The original blastwave.rb would store "no pkg-get in /usr/sbin /usr/
bin" into @@pkgget if pkg-get is not found in the PATH.
The patch below modifies blastwave.rb to store the first matching
binary in the user''s PATH, or if not found, check the default
location (puppetd''s PATH may not be san...

Compile help for Solaris 10 x86, samba 3.0.28a deficient?
Hi all,
I've got an ongoing battle with samba shipped with Sun Solaris 10 in
it's current form (Samba version 3.0.28a) not wanting to talk to my
OpenLDAP master correctly. Essentially, under certain conditions, this
behaviour is observed, in the log.smbd:
[2008/10/11 08:54:03, 1, pid=13610] libsmb/cliconnect.c:(1451)
Error connecting to 192.168.117.150 (Connection refused)

how to update solaris packages without keeping local copies
Greetings,
I have a solaris package stored on a puppet server. I''d like
to be able to maintain the package on a client system without
having to also keep a copy of the package file on the client
system. (think lots and lots of packages)
Checksums work okay for noticing changes on the fileserver,
but it seems that I have to keep a local copy of the file as well.
When I rev the package

Solaris blastwave.org Version 3.0.23b doesn't read new information from /etc/passwd and /etc/group
Hi,
How would I make samba re-read group and user information? Is there a .tdb file that needs to be deleted?
I have recently added more supplementary groups for a user in /etc/group, but the information isn't coming through in the logs, all I get is this:
[2008/06/27 07:51:24, 5] auth/auth_util.c:(474)
UNIX token of user 11001
Primary group is 11000 and contains 0 supplementary groups

ROR on solaris 10 gem installation error
On my Sun Enterprise 450,
I installed ruby-1.8.4 from sunfreeware.com. That installed like a
dream.
I then downloaded rubygems-0.8.11. Untarred into /usr/local/src and
tried to do a /usr/local/bin/ruby install.rb
this is what followed and can someone help me figure out what to do?

Downgrade TDB files?
Hi.
I've tried Samba 3.4.3 and it upgraded my passdb.tdb file. After testing
I concluded that I'm not going to upgrade to 3.4.3 yet, because 'getent
passwd' was broken in recent BlastWave Solaris packages:
http://wiki.blastwave.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=447&start=0
Now, after I downgraded the Samba back to 3.0.32, client connections
started to malfunction. I saw these in my logs:
[2010/01/04 10:54:08, 0] ../samba-3.0.32/source/passdb/pdb_tdb.c:(1049)

Corrections for the R manual on Solaris
...Likewise many open-source software will install the 64-bit
libraries in /usr/local/lib/amd64. There's no "intel64" or anything like that.
3) "Modern Solaris systems allow a large selection of Open Source software to be
installed from http://www.opencsw.org (formerly http://www.blastwave.org) via
pkg-get, "
It should be noted that OpenCSW and Blastwave are both still in existence.
There's a lot of animosity between the two camps, but both do exist. So one is
not formally the other.
Unfortunately, they both install software in /opt/csw, so I would be very weary
of us...

Slow and unpredictable Samba performance?
...he same network, there is a Debian Samba server, and transfer rates go
high as 10.5-11.0MB/s.
Next test I did was switching to Gbit interface. That increased transfer rates
up to 25 MB/s, but that is still 5 times slower than the theoretical limit.
So, next thing I've tried was to switch to Blastwave (CSW) Samba instead of
SUNW Samba.... My transfer rates went back to normal immediately! It was a
bit of shock for me... I could transfer about 10MB/s on 100Mbit interface,
and around 45MB/s on 1Gbit interface. 45MB/s is theoretically limit of the
workstation hard drive I was doing transfers f...

v2.0.0 released

http://dovecot.org/releases/2.0/dovecot-2.0.0.tar.gz.sig
As promised last Friday, here's the v2.0.0 release finally. I'm
cautiously optimistic that v2.0.1 won't (have to) be released for a few
weeks, since there was quite a lot of testing and fixing going on in the
RC stage.

Platforms supported by Puppets?
Hello,
I would like to know on what platforms Puppet runs. I cannot seem to
find the information on Puppet''s web site. Bcfg2 has it on it''s front
page :-)
I know there are .debs and .rpms, but are, for instance, Solaris,
FreeBSD and AIX supported?
Thanks.

what slows down puppet the most?
Hi guys,
Which puppet operations should i try to avoid?
I know that probably the most time consuming operations are file copies,
but, is there something from the code point of view that I should try to
avoid?
I''ve seen for example, that on Solaris, puppet will execute pkginfo quite
alot of times - sometimes with a package name, some other times without
(pkginfo -l), thats extremely time

http://www.blastwave.org/testing/puppet-0.22.4-SunOS5.8-all-CSW.pkg.gz
As well as being the latest versions of facter and puppet, the puppet
package now respects csw.conf to prevent puppetd autostarting on install and

Building Dovecot with OpenLDAP break PAM LDAP on Solaris
...ne month ago.
To sum it up, my Solaris 10 box has local accounts as well as LDAP ones
via PAM. They work well as-is, with no special configuratio, for WU IMAP
(using the ?other? entry in pam.conf.
When I tried a self-built Dovecot, all accounts were authenticated
without problem. Then I tried the Blastwave version, same release, but
with more option, and this one didn't work with the exact same
configuration: local accounts were authenticated, not the PAM LDAP ones.
Now, it turns out that when Dovecot is built using OpenLDAP, then PAM
LDAP account won't work. If it's built with Solaris...

Still stuck with Samba on Solaris 10
I was hoping someone could post, or point me to, a clear set of instructions
for compiling Samba 3.5.3 (or even 3.4.8) on Solaris 10. Or even just
confirmation that Solaris 3.5.3 really can compile on Solaris 10 with active
directory, nsswitch and zfs support. (I notice that Samba and Blastwave
versions of Samba 3.4.x do not include zfs and nsswitch support.)
I have a consistent issue that I cannot seem to compile with shared library
support enabled. My production system is Solaris 10 Update 7 on x86
(Solaris 10 5/09 s10x_u7wos_08 X86) It is currently running Samba 3.4.5
which I comp...

Building R on Solaris
...h, but our supplier
(an academic specialist reseller) had loaded ours with
Sun Studio 11 compilers (which are now a free download).
A set of Open Source tools from www.sunfreeware.com in /usr/sfw.
A large set of Open Source tools in /opt/csw.
The latter was new to me, and uses a repository at www.blastwave.org and a
nifty tool called 'pkg-get'. My sysadmin (who has an HP-UX and Debian
bias) thought this was the best he had seen, ahead of apt-get and yum, for
example. This box already had everything I needed to build R, including
gcc3, gcc4, libreadline and libiconv.
pkg-get is at http...
