Reusable Puppet config for Vagrant
I took an hour this morning to document how I use Vagrant and Puppet together to provision development VMs as well as more production-like systems. This may be entirely elementary to folks who are more fluent with Puppet, but this is an example I thought was lacking. https://github.com/blalor/vagrant-puppet-example I welcome feedback and criticism of this setup. I''m looking to minimize the difference between local development environments and production systems as much as possible. Thanks, Brian -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups &...

Executing a script after creating vhosts with create_resources
Hello I''d love a bit of advice in terms of how I should best go about this. I am creating a bunch of vhosts, their definitions are stored in json (I''m using heira) that json file will be generated from data held on another server. I''m just using the puppetlabs apache module and create_resources to then generate all the vhosts and their directories etc. I''m

Hiera Automatic Parameter Lookup Question
This may be a dumb question, but here goes So I''m running on Puppet 3.1.1 on RHEL5, and i''ve been using Hiera since 2.5/2.6 ish and it''s been great!! I was reading up on Automatic Parameter Lookups and would love to use it for my modules. But I can''t seem to ever get Hiera/Puppet to load the value i''ve set in my yaml files. I feel like I must be

Older versions of packages disappearing from yum repos
...e problems, too, namely ngircd which was upgraded from 18 to 20.1. How do I manage this problem? Do I need to maintain my own mirrors? That seems like a horrible solution. Is there another CentOS repository I should be using? Am I just going about this all wrong? Thanks, Brian -- Brian Lalor blalor at bravo5.org

Staging content from modules for temporary use by resources
Hello, I would like to find a few to use files available in a module for the execution of a particular resource, without having to stage the file explicitly onto the client and possibly having to clean it up afterwards. (This could also apply to content coming from templates.) The use-cases I have in mind are: running a SQL file (to set up some content in a database), extracting an archive

NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ernie, Thanks for the great info.. Based on what you were seeing, would you suspect that part of the problem is with the combination of NT and the 3com card (3c595)? Currently, we are ONLY seeing this under NT Workstation (not server) and almost all of our machines have this same 3com 3c595 card (only if using 100BaseT).. -- Rick -----Original Message----- From: Ernie Oporto

creating file locations from hiera
Hi list, I ran again against a long standing bug / feature request but from a new angle: creating directories with parents ( http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/86). I wanted to create a module, where a path could be supplied with a class parameter. The path would be used in a rsync configuration, so I would like to be sure the path exists. As I want the module to be general and completely

Run Puppet Against Master with Local node.pp Manifest?
Does anyone know if it''s possible to run Puppet as if it''s running with a Master, but using a locally created node.pp manifest? I''m looking into doing some unit tests on applications that are installed by Puppet. To do this, I''m trying to use a test VM server which I''ll deploy applications onto. I figure that the easiest way is probably to

cloud-init in CentOS 6.3 images
Good evening, all. I just tried spinning up a CentOS instance in EC2 using ami-de5bd2ee from the AWS marketplace. I put a dummy script into the user-data field when launching the instance from the EC2 console but found it didn't work, even though the SSH key for the root user did. I pinged Karanbir on ##aws and he suggested I post here to get the conversation started. I'm currently
