NTFS is more resilient than ext3? Or is it hardware issue?
Hi guys,
I don't mean to incite debate or something, just want to share
experience and a little curiosity.
Back long time ago, we have an old file MS W2K (NTFS) server where due
no admin was available to manage it, the server would get power off
when the office closed, and auto power on again in the morning. That
thing happened for years and it was fine ^^
Recently, I setup a Centos 5.5 file

Recommendations for consumer-grafe GPSes?
2. Recommendations?
My use case is pretty typical. I have one Linux machine I want to
protect, automated shutown is desirable, blackouts longer than a
hour are very rare at my location (the last one I can remember was
in 1993), brownouts are very rare and mild, but summer thunderstorms
are common and can be severe. I'm a good match for your typical
consmer-grade UPS.

Advice on best operator phone (with attendant console)
...ssfully
however this particular operator processes around 200 calls a hours and
the GXP2000 for sure does not like the quick line shuffling and call
volume. We get the following problems randomly:
1. menu stops working
2. transfer key stops working
3. Line 1 LED gets stuck
4. Voice 'gaps' (blackouts) for 4-5 seconds
5. The phone also completely locks up regularly
6. ping response goes from 8ms to 3000ms (after which the phone locks
up)
Wondering which operator phone would work best. I have the following
choices:
1. Linksys SPA 932/962 with attendant console
2. Polycom 601/650 with attendant...

Dumb views?
Hello again! I''ve another "what would you do in this situation" question.
You''ve got 6 controllers, one named base. The other 5 controllers extend
base. Currently they share one layout.
Your layout displays navigation. However, there are two actions inside base
for which you do not want navigation displayed (index, new).
Do you...

What are some effective power status solutions?
Greetings NUT users,
I am looking for a solution to monitor the power OUTSIDE my datacenter.
(The on/blackout status of main building power).
My small datacenter is covered by a UPS, an older Liebert 18Kva unit with
no environmental or status monitoring outside of the LCD console and
audible alarm. The Liebert UPS is backed by a 35KW diesel generator which
usually kicks on within 10

Red Hat patch kills streaming
Has anyone else seen this? I patched my Red Hat box yesterday with the
Red Hat 2.4.18-4 kernel patch. It was fine until I rebooted and then the
new kernel failed. It still came up with the old kernel. No biggee, we
were in a blackout time anyway since we are not allowed to stream
certain national broadcasts, so I re-installed just to try out something
new.
I patched the kernel with all the

Timeout on reconnection?
I have Red Hat Linux RHEL 4 with Samba version 3.0.10-1.4E that mounts a

gid=100,uid=501,username={xxxxxxx},password={pppppp}
The mount succeeds and the mount appears on the output of 'df' and the
documents are accessible and life is as grand

Issues w/ Apple devices after migration to dovecot
Hi guys.
Recently we've moved our old (and I mean _really_ old) mailserver to a new
hardware. Since I had quite some time on my hands, I decided to switch
from courier to dovecot. Transition went pretty smoothly and the users
experienced just a few hours' blackout.
Only trouble now is that, after re-configuring some IOS handsets and
tablets, not all messages are displayed correctly.

X100P/Caller ID: clidtest works, * complains [repost]
Hi,
I'm running Asterisk 1.0.8 on Gentoo, with an X100P (clone) card, and I'm
having problems with Caller ID. I have run clidtest, and it seems happy
enough, returning:-
server clidtest # ./clidtest /dev/zap/1
Number: 0412222222, Name: MOBILE
(that number's fake.) However, I'm not getting the caller ID passed
through with *. Sometimes I get a "failed checksum" like

Bad news - my UPS has died. Good news - my UPS has died
...date the UPS
HOWTO, <http://tldp.org/HOWTO/UPS-HOWTO/introduction.html>.
I have not yet selected a replacement UPS. There is no urgent need
for me to do so; where I live (mid-Atlantic coast of the U.S.) it is
the dead of winter and the absolutely least risky time of the year for
events like blackouts and electrical storms. I have about three
months before our summer storm season really threatens. Rather than
buy a UPS instantly, I would prefer to do some research on the state
of the market in 2009 and allow others to benefit from what I learn.
Accordingly, I have at least three sets of quest...

couting events by subject with "black out" windows
I large datset that includes subjects(ID), Dates and events that need to be counted. Not every date includes an event, and I need to only count one event per 30days, per subject. So in essence, I need to create a 30-day "black out" period during which time an event cannot be "counted" for each subject. The reason is that a rule has been set up, whereby a subject can only be

ago this colleague left the company. Last week our office Building has been hit
by a lightning wich resulted in an power blackout.
After the power went back again, the system booted and all but one of the

some fixes, improvements, and new features (EPO and DYING) for NUT
...l status after "upsmon -c fsd" once mains power
returns or if power was never actually off; whereas with "upsmon -c epo"
then everything should power down and stay off even if mains power
remains on and steady.
For example I would have used "FSD" to shut down in power blackouts
where I knew the power could not return before the batteries ran low,
and thus I would have conserved battery charge for the inevitable short
hiccups that occur after a long blackout, but still been able to enjoy
automatic restart after the blackout in case power returns while I'm
sleeping, etc...
