winamp plug-in enhancement/bugfix
...,
thanks for the feedback. now i can start encoding like mad knowing that the
generated flac files are ok =)
(flac -t said the files were ok, despite metaflac's complaints).
i noticed that without the flac-for-winamp plug-in installed, winamp
correctly displays the id3 filename (e.g. "Bjork - Human Behavior") in the
playlist and also displays the id3 tags in the file properties (although it
has the bitrate and some other encoding related info wrong). obviously,
however, you can't play the flac files without the plug-in.
but if you install the plug-in, winamp will only dis...

Strange Samba permissions on vfat (fat32) volume
...ailable in
comparison with bad files that had only Read-Execute and Read
permissions available. On server permissions looked like this:
Normal file:
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root server1 6158201 1999-05-05 21:36 Alex Gopher - Super Disco.mp3
Bad file:
-r-xr-xr-x 1 root server1 2568192 2001-10-04 16:52 Bjork - All Is Full Of Love.mp3
I realized that some of the "bad" files where copied to vfat partition
from CD drive (when this HDD was still on a windows PC). So the logical
thinking would suggest, that those files have Read Only mark (which is
usually given to all files that are copied fro...

kmeans: number of cluster centres must lie between 1 and nrow(x)
Dear R,
Can't I cluster a dataset into k clusters where k is exactly the number of
observations? I have version 12.2 installed. See this example
> a <- matrix(1:100, 20)
> kmeans(a, 20)
Error: number of cluster centres must lie between 1 and nrow(x)
This is a bit ad-hoc but I known R from version 2.12 allows number of
clusters to be one. So I guess allowing number of clusters to be

Frequency and summary statistics table with different variables and categories
Hello helpers,
This is probably quite simple, but I'm stuck.
I want to create a summary statistics table with frequencies and summary
statistics for a large number of variables. The problem here is that (1)
there are two different classes of categories (sex, type of substance abuse
and type of treatent) which overlap, (2) the data for different variables
should be presented in different

Metadata socket and net2str() error
Hello there,
I was hoping that maybe one of you guys could help me out with a problem I'm
experiencing with tinc1.0pre7.
First, I'll start with my configuration, after that I'll explain my problem.
Background
----------
This is a simple, client-server situation on a private network. Both
machines run the same Debian Woody 3.0 testing installation and both have
identical packages

icecast 2.0 semi-permanent test stream
Icecast 2.0 and Ices 2.0 are both fairly usable now.
I have set up a semi-permanent test stream for people to bang on at:

Please report any problems you have.
I say semi-permanent, because it will probably crash now and then, and I
will be developing and putting up the new versions on a regular basis.
If it stops working for more than an hour, somethings

With the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.

and the fire is invisible and Jesus Christ, well, the solution is not so
invisible ... it means "SAFE" but of course it's the dancing ... and
specifically ballet dancing that sort of lightens the mood of "morning is
bjorked" with some jokes about tooth brushes and pretty shining green stars
... I mean girls. You can see the same kind of logic and humor and
insideous truth tucked away in places like my "IP ADDRESS" which might be a
similar reference to ... "donning clothes" ... but not really...

Relative frequency of cases in data frame matching a specified criteria
I want to get the relative frequency of cases in a data frame that
matches a specified criteria, omiting NA values. This seem so simple,
but I can't come up with an effective way.
nrow(data[data$variable>value & !is.na(data$variable),])/nrow(data)
works but is very ineffective and CPU consuming when the data frame is
large (more than 13000 rows and 400 columns).

Problem connecting linux box to linux box in ad
Hi
I have a customer running 2 RedHat 7.3 servers. These are running to gether with w2k and w2k3
machines in an Active Directory.
I ran samba 2.0.7 and upgraded to 3.0.8 because of that the customer had to use restrict anonymous
= 2 in windows, that stops the IPC$ share to be seen by anonymous connections.
I configured Kerberos and could connect windows boxes to one of the linux boxes, the

Problems with points in plots when importing from pdf to an SVG editor
Dear R-users
When trying to import graphics from an pdf-file to a Vector graphics editor
(I use Inkscape, but i've confirmed the same problem on adobe products), all
points in the graphics turn out as "q"s.
This example displays the beaviour:
pdf(file="points are weird.pdf")
plot(1:5)

When importing the file to inkscape, I get five neatly arranged little
