OT - CID with Asterisk and Betamax
...ing secret=secret:username and username=CID should work. I tried, doesn't work. Anyway it wouldn't solve the problem, I would have to dynamicaly change the username (how to do this?), as the CID is depending on the current call. Has anyone of you have success with Voicetrading or others Betamax GWs to set there own CID? If yes, would you share? Ah, yes, already tried to contact their support, but like all Betamax Services, no answer. And yes, I know, use other GWs -what I do-, but their prices are very competitive and my account is loaded. Regards, thanks for any hint. -- Daniel

OT: long - Replacing CD's? was RE: New type of copy-prot ected audio CDs are coming...
It won't be long until big labels attempt to eliminate the digital ins and outs of equipment. The problem they face is most people that currently use a rack system featuring digital interconnects will NEVER revert to an analog only system. I know that I won't! Think back to VHS, BetaMax, SVHS and LaserDisc. VHS has incredible market share because its licensing is open. Betamax was strangled by Sony. SVHS and LaserDisc failed to reach critical mass because they offered only incremental improvements and were not backward compatible. Attempts to supplant CD's with a product t...

Ekiga can register but not my IP phone
Hello, I have a Sip phone (Siemens C470IP) which works perfectly with different VoIP providers (iptel, betamax, ovh...). It also worked well with my testing server (ubuntu and inside the LAN). But now the problem i have is that the hardphone doesn't connect to my dedicated server (debian lenny / Asterisk 1.6.2.13). The strange thing is that ekiga can connect to the same asterisk server with the same SI...

[Maybe OT]: SIP Provider
Hi all! Currently I'm using Messagenet, a SIP-Provider in Italy, to have an italian number via VoIP, _to receive calls only_. I use it to allow my friends and parents in Italy to call me in Germany without paying too much. This service was free of charge in the last years. Now will Messagenet beginning from end of november, to cancel this free service and only offer paying services (for

Voip* 300 minutes limit, credit expires
Betamax makes our life more and more difficulty, hehehehehehe. I found (today) that the free calls are limited to 300 minutes per week. It is good to know what "excess" use means! That gives now also a challenge in the dialplan!!!! Let's assume we have 5 accounts, each one has 300 minutes....

Calls drop after a couple of minutes.
...last couple of months: * Calls are setup fine. * After a couple of minutes, two way audio becomes one-way and the remote or local party drops out of the call. Setup: * Nokia E71i sip on NAT'd network (multihomed linux box) * Remote asterisk 1.4.21 on Ubuntu on public network * using a Finera/Betamax provider to route calls to PSTN. I initially thought it may be a NAT problem and have checked everything on the NAT gateway/firewall. I see no rejected packets hitting the firewall logs. I'm really at a loss as to what could be causing the calls to drop out for one party so regularly. Any c...

Gapless Support
...n at mastering sessions where the mastering engineer added in silence, or edited the silence that was included on the final DAT or CD-R, and asked the artist/producer to listen to the difference. Typical DAT recorders add a standard gap between tracks, and older tape formats (such as Sony PCM-F1 on Betamax) have longer and less predictable gaps. A fraction of a second added (or removed) in between tracks can make a huge difference to how an album comes across. The aim of pregaps on a CD is to allow the track skip buttons to hit the beginning of the desired track, while also having the correct gap be...

here's the thing that tips the scale
ok, i waited for 2 weeks, and still no votes -- none! -- on whether my posts are sufficiently on-topic, or not... and that basically confirms what i suspected all along, which is that no one really cares one way or the other. even the guys who put up the bitchy posts are probably just having a bad day, and they don't have a dog to kick, and the wife made 'em stop smoking herb, so they

Markdown development
Not only is [Markdown] dead, it's starting to smell really bad. (Apologies to Pike.) It's author appears to have little interest in developing the tool and participating in the community which uses it. I'd like to see the community cooperate toward a specification which addresses the shortcomings and ambiguities of Markdown (even if it need be released under a new name).

MIT vs GPL vs LGPL for open source project
I intend to release a project I wrote with Rails. What is the right licensing scheme for a web application (content managing system) which could grow with plugins and add-ons ? Personally, I would prefer the GPL but does that mean any add-on to the CMS (like task management) will have to be GPL ? If some people contribute to the code could it still be double-licenced so that the people who
