Specifying a view template
...is the customary way to do this? I tried using render_action to specify the template explicitly, and it "works". But I would like to be able to redirect to this method without getting a "Can only render or redirect once per action" error. Volume of patches for CentOS vs Fedora
...an Linux Distributor) is supposed to be better tested before release than Fedora. But still, there must be some other factor to explain the disparity. Like CentOS only releasing a patch for security problems and not bug fixes or something like that. Could someone enlighten me? Thanks, Steve Bergman

portmap & tcpwrappers
...here was a bit of time spent troubleshooting DNS, portmap, mount (the program that alerted me to the failure), etc., trying to find what the apparent DNS problem was. The other problem that came up is that everytime a portmap request (initiated by mount) was denied, the portmap daemon died. Syslinux drive confusion
...s is clearly a BIOS dependency. The question is what. Our own 32-bit OS runs without problem. The BIOS follows the standards and the hardware are initialized properly. I know Linux has made a mess of SATA (sd) and PATA (hd). The failing BIOS run SATA in legacy mode. Can this be a factor here? B-O Bergman Zebor Technology

Cannot save/migrate domains
Hi, I had a problem trying to migrate domains, in trying to locate it I noticed that saving domains doesn''t work either, which I believe explains why the receiving xfrd doesn''t actually receive anything. So here it goes... xenone:/tmp# xm list Name Id Mem(MB) CPU State Time(s) Console Domain-0 0 123 0 r---- 900.6 sky 9

Trouble with *80, *82
Hi, I'm having trouble dialling the codes for blacklist & un-hide caller ID (*80 & *82) using a TDM400. I get reorder tone as soon as I dial *8, and in fact I can pick up calls with just *8 rather than *8# when there is one to be picked up. Ideas? Thanks, brad -- Brad Bergman <bradley@bergman.ca>

Hi, Does anyone know how to correctly configure RadRails (0.7)? I can''t seem to get 0.7 version of radrails to create a Rails project. All I get is a blank project. I have ensured that my PATH does point to my ruby\bin area. I got this far: lm(Y1~X1+X2,mydata) now how do I add the second line of the model including the cross dependency? Your help is greatly appreciated! Cheers, Bastiaan

More questions about patch management
I'm still trying to get an idea about how best to handle patches on CentOS. Say I want to apply security patches automatically on a nightly basis. But when the push from 4.2 to 4.3 comes around, I want to defer that for when I can do it manually. Is that possible? (Preferably with yum, but I would use up2date if that were necessary.) Also, I'm used to doing 'yum update'. I

Centos 4.2 and Boot/Root on RAID?
Hi, I have a client that insists on going with software rather than hardware raid1 to save a few dollars. Can Centos 4.2 do Boot and Root on software Raid1? I've heard criticisms of Grub and bootable RAID. Also, if it is not set up to work out of the box, I'd like to try to talk them out of it. I've been down that road before. If I go nonstandard, by the time I actually need

Shrinking a volume group
I did something stupid when setting up a server which is now live. I think I'm stuck. I set up swap on Raid1 which is decidedly non-optimal. I'd prefer 2 independent swap partitions at the same priority. scp on the client-side requires scp on the server-side as well
...? IMHO it seems like a bad design. I usually create a Solaris-package with prngd, sshd, ssh-keygen and name it OpenSSH-3.x.x-serveronly but now I have to also include 'scp'. Is it possible to modify 'scp' on the server-side to _only_ act as a receiver? Regards, Daniel -- Daniel Bergman Phone: 08 - 55066265 Mobile: 070 - 289 30 39 Fax: 08 - 59827056 Email: d-b at home.se
