Calling Number Verification Number? for BellSouth/AT&T
BellSouth (now AT&T) has a number you can dial and it will play back voice prompts with your calling number? It's used by their techs with a buttset in identifying analog 1FB lines... Eg Dial 704-210-3233, it answers "Seven-Zero-Four-Five-Five-Nine-Two-One-Two-Two" if your dialing f...

SPA 3102 Caller ID in Bellsouth/NA
Anyone tried the new PSTN/FXO port in the new SPA 3102 FXO/FXS adapter ? From a quick test (got mine yesterday), seems like it is not recognizing Caller ID from PSTN/FXO port.. Using the same configuration as a Sipura 3000 (to be sent to mother-in-law POP :-), no Caller ID at all, (I've even extended the PSTN delay to give it more time, but no dice). www.voxilla.com forum has a couple

I should have mentioned that this applies to Linus' 3.13.0-rc7 and rc8 git. Maybe it's obvious. Sorry about that. OT: question on setting up an email server
...I can do it. I've got a total of 3 linux machines here, and I was thinking about setting one of them up as an email server. Now, I'm not talking about setting the machine up so that all I run on it is an email client like thunderbird, or evolution and retrieve email from my email account at bellsouth. What I want to try and do is set the machine up so that my machine is the email server, and I retrieve my email from it. Is what I'm thinking about even possible, or am I just simply having a case of too much oxygen on the brain? If what I'm thinking about is possible, how would I go about...

My problem is on calls to or from the CO I hear a "pinging" (thing sonar ping in a submarine) every 12 seconds. You can set your watch to it. COuld this be a "call recording in progress" tone. I have not made any effo...

win ME/Samba connection
Ok, believe it or not, I've looked through all 209 pages of the Samba-HOWTO_Collection.pdf plus used this mail list and other internet sources, used those recommendations, tried almost every possible iteration on the samba.conf file, looked at logs until nauseated and have concluded that there is no way that Windows ME can connect to a Linux box using Samba. Connecting to the WinME box from

Upgrade & directory permissions
I've just upgraded the version of Samba we're running from 2.2.2 to 3.0.2a and am seeing an issue with permissions on directories. Users can still map the shares that are set up, but cannot access the directories within those shares. This is also not consistent; it's not happening to all users. Our environment: Samba 3.0.2a Domain Authentication to a Win2K server No Winbind Solaris

Help with concurrent VoIP calls
...DR2 533. It is running Ubuntu Server 9.04 with the default Debian package manager installation of Asterisk. (version 1.4) Here is what is going on: I'm making outgoing calls (with .call files) via SIP (using Vitelity's service, if anyone wants to know) with about 55.0 ms latency between my Bellsouth DSL connection & their servers. I'm using GSM-format prompts with GSM encoding (disallow=all, allow=gsm in sip.conf) and I'm able to make about 7 concurrent calls. I have a very fast internet connection, so there is still plenty of bandwidth, and the "top" command shows that A...

Strange PRI lockup
We are currently using Asterisk 1.0.8 and noticing a rather odd problem that occurs roughly during the middle of the day sometimes. It seems that Asterisk and Bellsouth are getting out of sync somehow on the the status of the PRI channels. PSTN Incoming call on real line disrupts VoIP call over DSL circuit
I haven't seen anything this strange, and it's 100% reproducible. I'm hoping that there are some clever ideas out there for what to look for, since I can test to my heart's desire on this one... My Dad lives in Florida, and has a Bellsouth DSL line. Of course, he has a regular POTS line connected on the same line. He has the appropriate filters on every jack that has a phone connected to it, and he even replaced one or two of them (when I thought that was the problem). I sent him a HandyTone GS-486 (HT), configured to connect bac...
